The rivalry has been going on for ages. However, i recently realized i have no clue why it started!

anyone know what started the rivalry between Gaia and 4chan?

What rivalry? Immature and naive preteens (who are typically histrionic and egotistical as well) use Gaia and more mature people post on 4chan, although there are always a few exceptions to the rule. Example: you posting here, plaguing the site with your Godawful thread.

Gaia focuses on the forum's users rather than actual discussion, whereas 4chan is quite the opposite, what with the anonymous posting and all. Yes, that's right- trivial post counts and stupid-looking avatars don't matter here! There is no rivalry; you're not even on the same level as us. And your juvenile antics won't be tolerated here. Gaia has people who enjoy anime, and has an active, fun, interesting community. While it is mostly composed of pubescent or prepubescent kids, weeaboes, otakus, people who are new to the internet, people with escapist tendencies, japanophiles, trolls, people who had nothing better to do, or people who are in for the avatars or marketplace (or any combination of the above), it still manages to be a fun place once in a while.
Although, while it contains most stuff that 4channers hate, it is of no surprise that it was raided.
