The Illusory Middle Class

Name: Anonymous 2007-02-14 18:31

A great, great majority of modern people who think that their families are middle class are really lower or (especially) working class. Just a little known fact. Even families making 40,000$ a year regularly consider themselves middle class... Really if you think about it, middle class doesn't even really exist at all. It's just the bourgeoisie (the upper class capitalists) and the proletariat (the workers). Not to intentionally borrow Marxist terms, but this is true. The middle class is more of a propaganda device used to make people think they're better off than they really are.

Unless your parents own a small business or are highly paid, specialized workers or managers, then you're either lower or working class.

The definition of 'middle class' is not something that is very specifically outlined.  If you are single, and make 40,000$ a year, I would say you are middle class.

Thats a lot different than whole families who only make 40000 though

heh, 40,000 a year is plenty if your not a baby factory or a diamond addict.

always considered myself upper middle class... but when I can purchase a 70" plasma HDTV for $13000 and for no reason, guess that makes me upper class...

no, you are upper middle class

the upper class owns the means of production, not just fancy televisions
