Waste Disposal

So, in Japan people sort their trash into recyclables, burnable, and nonburnable.  I'm curious as to why other nations, the US in particular, haven't adopted the same habit.  Wouldn't following Japan's example help to reduce pollution and other waste related problems?

really, you should never compare USA and Japan, thats what gun-grabbers do.
Its cheaper for the USA to use landfills, its cheaper for Japan to Burn and Recycle than to ship there trash.
Also burning trash is just as bad as the environment as keeping it in a landfill, lots of carbon dioxide.(of course landfills make methane, but that equals future mines)
