Prostitution should be legal.

Prostitution could be regulated, taxed, and controlled better if it was to be legalized. The government could gain a substantial amount of money from taxing prostitution, help cut down on rape/violence involving prostitutes, and reduce the number of hookers with STDs. Usually, a prostitute's mistress's word is law to them, meaning all sorts of things. If the government ran whore houses instead of lowlife dominatrixes, then prostitutes (and their customers) would be much better off. Some mistresses force their girls to fuck customers raw, increasing the risk of getting an STD or even becoming pregnant, which can negatively affect many more people. There's nothing that can be done about this since it is a shady and illegal business right now.

Prostitution may not be pathetic, but at least we can try to profit off of it. Right?

I can't see how making it legal in the open market wouldn't get rid of black market risks.  If it is legal and in the open market, must undergo inspections and such by the government (or maybe some 3rd party inspectors), I can't see how the problems you list would be widespread & persistent.

Take a look at legal prostitution in Nevada.  Can you honestly say you wouldn't be happier with a system like that spread throughout the USA?
