If we tax everything enjoyable that does not benefit society generally, then people will eventually be encouraged to stop acting selfishly and act for the general betterment of society as a whole. Perhaps an ice cream tax would be a good place to start. Then a video game tax, and then another tax on alcohol... a tax on chocolate, a tax on televisions, a tax on watching television (too many people waste time watching TV. they should be doing something for the betterment of the community instead of wasting away in front of the telly for their selfish pleasure.) Well, I live in rural Arizona and guns are very commonplace, but no problem at all here. I guess it's bit different in big cities due to heavier regulations. I still think majority of Americans own atleast one gun. It maybe heirloom, "fun-gun", hunting weapon, gift, for home defense etc.
