Non-politician for President '08

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-21 23:03

Let's face it, politicians never do what their constituants want them to do.  They're more focused on fattening their wallets than helping the country or its people.  They are rarely honest with the public about their actions, private or professional, and when something bad happens they make every attempt in the world to absolve themselves of responsiblity.

We need leaders in this country who are honest, accountable, intelligent, and selfless.  People who will not think with their pockets when making decisions.  People who will not derive their values from religion.  People who don't hide behind technicalities and loopholes.  People who want to improve the lives of their fellow man.

We'll probably never be fortunate enough to have leaders like this.  But hell, maybe after our society colapses we can start over from scratch...

The Problem is not just deciding to run or not, it's mustering the  Pollitical and societal support necessarry to even make it on the ballot.  Most people can't even accomplish that, much less attaining the requisite national attention for their ideals to reach the masses and give them a decent chance of winning and being able to enact any changes whatsoever.

Of course, if they have copious ammounts of funding, reaching the populus isn't that much of an issue, but unless I'm mistaken, the expressed problem was the inherent greedy nature of said people and the unscrupulous dealings most of them make in order to acieve such wealth.

I'd rather vote for the Cookie Monster.

It's it kind of oxymoronic to wish for a non-politician to run for the President?  They become a politician as soon as they run! It's a logical impossibility!

Our current system breeds two fundamental conflicts of interest in the Legislative branch: firstly, you are to serve the country while at the same time representing your constituents; secondly (and this one especially applies to the Senate), you represent an ENORMOUS number of people, all with very different interests and concerns.

In the first case, the interest of a state or district is often at odds with what is best for the health of the country as a whole.  In the second case, because legislators "represent" such a vast swath of America, they are more concerned with not pissing off any significant segment of their constituency (seeking reelection) than with sound legislation.

Don't change these.
