His success and the poverty he caused the china was entirely due to the lack of spirit of liberty in the Chinese people. Luckily western influences seems to be evolving china's government away from tyranny.

The industrial era is nothing like eras of the past. A country can change in a decade more than it did during 500 years of classical/medieval/rennaissance history. Impossible, China had around 1/4 of the world's population and there had just been a world war. It would have been ethical to use international pressure to presere human rights in China, but that wouldn't have stopped Mao's will.
