Atheists only make a big deal out of it because of what the theists do.  If the stupid Christians, Muslims, whatever extremists just calmed the fuck down and stopped forcing things on us, no one would care about it.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-08 15:16

why never any love/hate to the agnostics? do we gotta be on an extreme to get any attention? so much for the middle child.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-08 15:32

Contrary to popular belief, agnosticism is not a "middle ground" between theism and atheism.  There is no middle ground.  You either believe in god(s) or you don't.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-08 15:33

>>7
no, that's not true. i think it's possible that there is a god, but whether or not it's a christian god i donno. and  i also keep in mind that there may not be. it's not so clean cut.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-08 15:38

>>8
Actually it is.  A/theism is about belief, agnosticism has to do with knowledge.  Two different things.  Technically, everyone is an agnostic because no one has definite proof of anything.

Saying you're not an atheist or a theism is like saying you don't believe in god, but you don't not believe in god.  It's a paradox.  Either there is an apple in your hand or there is not an apple in your hand.  It cannot simultaneously be there and not be there.

Either there is an apple in your hand or there is not an apple in your hand.  It cannot simultaneously be there and not be there.

oh yeah it can. if the apple in invisible.

if you see a number of sticks in the ground in a forest arranged into a geometric -yet a little uneven- pattern, do we assume these sticks fell that way, or do we assume a person came along and put them there. it can be either one, and i'm not latching onto any one side. same with religion and god. when you're arguing about the existance of something you cannot see in the physical world, and have to make sence of it through either faith or logic, it's easy not to know which one is right. some things make me think there's a god, others dont. i admit i'm leaning more on the doen't exist side, but still, i'm open to hearing both sides of the argument almost equally.

"oh yeah it can. if the apple in invisible."

Um, no.  Even if it is invisible, it's still has to be there or not.

With your sticks example you are still just confusing knowledge and belief.  Did the sticks fall that way or did someone put them there?  Yes, it CAN be either one.  But it IS only one.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-08 16:10

"Yes, it CAN be either one.  But it IS only one."

i understand this, but agnostisim is being unable to choose which one it is. i'm not beleiving in the existance and non existance of god at the same tim'e, i'm simply unsure of either. of course only one choice is true, but WHICH one is what agnostics have trouble with.

it's like schrodinger's cat. the cat in the device can be alive and dead simultaniously while unobserved, and only observation changes this state.

Your ability to choose is irrelevant.  Once again, knowledge and belief.  Different things.

If you believe in god(s), you are a theist.  If you do not believe in god(s), you are an atheist.  Your belief may change due to circumstances, but you are always one or the other.

ok, then the mind set of an agnostic is ever changing between a thiest and an athiest, even for only a moment. i can agree with that.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-08 16:40

A little better, but still a retarded way of looking at it.

I am both an agnostic and an atheist.

I don't KNOW if god exists, nor do I think it is possible we'll ever find out.  Therefore I am agnostic.

Due to this lack of knowledge and my own personal experience in life, I don't BELIEVE that god exists.  Therefore I am atheist.

Yeah but other atheists come up with equally stupid annoying crap, so I hate them.

>>6
I am an assumed atheist, in truth I am an agnostic, but I aassume atheism. I am equally non-extreme. Except for the fact that I find extreme atheists annoying.

>>7
Or you admit you don't know? Or you admit you don't know for certain, but you assume there isn't? Think outside the box Captain IsuckotherpeoplesdickbecauseIamtoostupidanduncreativetofigureoutideasformyself. How do I know your name? Just a wild guess.

Evidence is just that, only you determine what it means. It doesn't mean the evidence didn't happen, if you have memory of evidence and you believe it was an illusion, that doesn't stop your memory of that evidence from occurring.

Listen to the agnostic, clearly his reasonning skills are a little less bent with superstition and other people's attempts to fuck with your mind.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-08 19:15

No, the agnostic simply does not recognize the difference between knowledge and belief.

You seem to need to learn this difference as well.

Please do so before you speak again.

I understand very well the nature and neccesity of dogmas in metaphyics. However in my endless quest for knowledge I am always open to criticism and correction, please tell me what you think I don't know.

"One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism."

So it admits that it is a form of atheism, even if it is a pussy form.

Thank you very much for proving my point.  I should have thought of that earlier.

Except this is a wrong definition based on the corrupt meaning of agnosticism as softcore atheism. Please go look up who Thomas Henry Huxley is, the person who invented the term agnosticism, and learn what the view consists of.

Don't change these.
