Legalize Prostitution

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-07 22:24

Fuck yeah, legalize it.

(pun intended)

yes and no. environmental factors make prostitution seem like the only option, but it's not. prostitution is not the last resort, but it is a resort. i wont argue that those in financial despiration sometimes turn to prostitution, but it still isn't forced on the. it's still a choice. a hard one, and one out of few others, but still a choice. if prostitution were legalized and regulated, those who find them selves being unable to do anything else would then at least have an organized and clean environment in which to bring themselves back up, or stay how they are. the only downfall i see of legalizing prostitution is that those who use it as their only last ditch effort at monitary gain will most likley end up not being able to practice within the legalized profession because they dont meet hesalth standards.

So the environment has forced the woman into the situation, or at least coerced her into it to some degree.  It is certainly not a totally voluntary activity.  Again, to top it off, it is degrading to women.  Women are not chunks of meat to be bought and sold.

>>43 "So the environment has forced the woman into the situation, or at least coerced her into it to some degree.  It is certainly not a totally voluntary activity"

coerced is not the same as forced. and to coerce to some degree certainly isn't the same as forced.

"Again, to top it off, it is degrading to women.  Women are not chunks of meat to be bought and sold."

No, they are not, but it's a fantasy nontheless. a fantasy that prostitutes cater to. again, 'degrading' only applies if the person has been forced against their will into doing something they would otherwise object to, and viewing prostitutes as chuncks of meat for sale is also dependant on ones own point of view. You could find reality shows degrading to the human race, but it doesn't mean it's wrong. Those who mistreat women have problems of their own. if prostitution reenforces this dilusion, it's no ones fault of their own. if a person is open to suggestion so much they think that it's cool to do stupid things by watching jackass, then that's their own fault, not that of those who do those things professionally and dont do them in real life.

you mustn;t mix fantasy with reality, either when participating in fantacy, or alledging that fantacy is the cause of some reality.

This thread reeks of stupidity.  People are responsible for their own actions.  Stop being pussies and take responsibility.  If someone can't do anything but sell sex, they put themselves there, and that's their fault and their problem.

thank you.

it's legal where i live :p

>>39
So what? This has nothing to do with legalizing the activity itself. Stick to the subject please.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-09 14:09

>>45 Again, environmental determinism.  Women can't be held responsible for their actions.  Society must be changed in order to better accommodate them.  Some freedoms must be removed for the sake of keeping women safe.  Prostitution should remain largely illegal, and we should pass federal laws making it illegal everywhere, to override any unjust local and state laws that allow it there.

Women are oppressed by our current society, and women will not be able to be elevated to their proper respectful position among society until the abuses on them stop.  This starts with getting the following ideas in motion:

Pornography should be closely monitored and regulated by authorities.  With the governments new powers granted it under various bits of legislation, I believe we have the power and the authority to make this all happen.

Prostitution should be federally banned as disrespectful to women, at the very least.  Women are not chunks of meat to be bought and sold.  We need more and stricter gun laws, and we should participate with the U.N. and other affiliated organizations (http://www.iansa.org/), and elect presidents who will promote their pro-women anti-violence plans (http://www.wagv.org/).  The Bush administration and their appointee John Bolton has failed to do this.

We need people who will hold the firearms industry accountable, and we should be doing to them what we did to big tobacco in the past.  The tobacco industries have cost lives, as have the firearms industries, and should be severely punished.  We should combat attempts by the republicans to stop lawsuits against the firearms industry.  They are to be held partly responsible for this violence epidemic.

>>49 Dude, I'm all for ripping the balls of big tobacco and stopping the suffering caused by unrestricted small arms trade. I also want something to be done about women only being treated as 90% of humans but... Governments  almost always backfire more than the market does. Canada being a pleasant exception. We had a debate in our school where the Social Democrats (second part of moniker usually put in quotation marks) talked about how sweet they thought Canada was; "Strong social protection, excellent health-care, public service, good education" -at which point the People's Party (our libertarians, your socialists) piped in - "and half of Sweden's taxation.". Everybody lulz, the end.

I <3 the alcohol, tobacco, and firearms industries.  The Bush administration's appointees had the best solution, unlike >>49 says.  They basically said they would not work to prevent arming rebels fighting for more just government and or freedom, and that they wouldn't do anything which would infringe upon the 2nd amendment.  The Bush administration was right on this issue, and I shudder to think what might have happened if we had a democrat and a democratic U.N. ambassador appointee.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-09 17:28

If you make prostitution you take the law out of how prostitutes are protected and regulated, since prostitutes will stay away from the law. You will then provide opportunities for pimps and pushers to fill this gap and "protect" their whores.

Frankly I prefer a democratic government regulating prostitutes than some gang controlling 17 year old girls with heroine.

Since when both arms and tobacco industries are to blame? Firearms are just tools and no-one forces you to smoke. I'm all for educating people about evils of tobacco and gun safety. Attack against those industries is just worthless and provides false solution(tobacco becomes profitable business for black market). Also Canada is not heaven. Those things might be good, but it has the ugly side of shitty bureaucracy, ridiculous restrictions and govermental censorship.

CHUCKS OF MEAT! CHUCNKS OF MEAT! BAN! BAN! BAN!

oh, but i love this bit:
"Women can't be held responsible for their actions.  Society must be changed in order to better accommodate them.  Some freedoms must be removed for the sake of keeping women safe"

THE FEMINAZI SAYS CHICKS ARE DUM. LOLZ. BITCHES CAN'T KEEP THEIR LEGS CLOSED! CAPTAIN GOVERNMENT MUST SAVE THE DAY BY SLASHING OUR FREEDOMS!

Sorry, you have no real argument. you cannot prove that porn CAUSES rape, you can only show like trends without the means to solidly connect them. You're argument about degradement and 'chuncks' of meat is invalid, because these instances of treatment are acts of fantasy that prostitutes cater to, and no normal person would ever do to their girlfrien or wife, or even someone passing them in the street. if they do, they're already not so right in the head, and prostitutes do nothing to cause that. If they do, it's because the man misinterperates the fantasy as reality. again, not the prostitutes fault. your solution to utilize our military strength on a relativly minor social problems (which, as a bigger issue would be poverty in general, not simply prostitution) also flawed. there are bigger things in this world, and in this country, to worry about than prostitution (which is why i say 'relatively').

Prostitution should remain illegal for the sake of women.  Legalizing prostitution would implant in people's minds the notion that it is ok for women to be viewed as mere chunks of meat to be bought and sold.  This is not the case, and this works against women.  In order to make society more pro-women, we must eliminate the source of our anti-women problems.  Obviously, things that tend to make people view women as sex-objects or chunks of meat should be removed for the sake of making society view women more positively.  When a culture is not pro-women enough, it is justified to sacrifice some freedoms and to use force in order to change it to make it more pro-women.

did you even watch the video?

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-10 13:31

>>68 I did.  The video did not address the fact that women are still viewed as mere sex objects and chunks of meat, that prostituion legalization would encourage and promote these anti-women concepts, etc.

No they wouldn't. Many men seek out prostitutes not only for sex but also compainionship. in legalized prostitution, men don't simply walk in, grab a woman, fuck her then throw a wad of cash later. the women working in the legalized brothels are treated with respect and dignaty, in which their service is just that, a service, not an obligation. prostitutes can refuse sevice from violent and rude customers and they can be black listed for future meetings. More times than not, the man is seeking a physical release. if this unfortunately means that he does not take into account the feelings of the prostitute as a whole, then that's a shame, but that's also her job. If she is hired to be a companion for the night, she's a companion. if she's hired to be a hole to fuck, then that's what she is for that session. How women are viewed are viewd as such by the individual far before he comes to a prostitute. one does not have utter respect for women, then as soon as they see a prostitute it all goes out the window. no, men who see women as chuncks of meat do so on their own, and if that's taken out on other women, or somehow fostered through incercourse with a prostitute, it's entirly the fault of the man, not the woman. how is it it's perfectly fine for women to whore themselves out for free, but you make a moral line in the sand for those selling that service. Again, it's about personal responsibility and how people use the tools and media around them. if a person cann't use these things responsibly, then they shouldn't use them, but that doesn't mean you take them away from all of us simply to take it away from them.

Make prostitution illegal.

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-10 18:44

Or they could charge more if the customer is rude.

If the brothels are legalized, they would have to follow laws and stuff okay. Charging more depending on customer behaviour is illegal.
