I hear a lot of liberals/democrats whining and moaning about the Patriot Act, and blaming it all on Bush, and using this as an excuse to support the democrats. 

Due to this, I took the liberty of digging up the actual vote on the USA Patriot Act in the U.S. Senate.  Lets see how well those democraps stood up for your rights:

In fact, of all those dems in the ENTIRE SENATE, only -=ONE=- of them voted against the Patriot Act.

Thank god we have democrats to fight for my civil liberties, and my right to keep and bear arms!  .. Oh.. wait..

Seconded.  If you don't penalize the democrats at the polls for voting in a shitty manner like this, they are never going to be held accountable, and will continue to vote in said shitty manner.  I suggest all democrats give a protest vote for the libertarians the next several elections.

The OP's point is very well taken.  I'm fairly liberal-leaning, but I don't really give a crap about the Patriot Act.  I did have reservations, however, about the open-ended powers it gave to the federal government before the 2006 revision.

It was the Democratic party (on the whole) that voiced these reservations.  However, as usual, when the Dems voice a reservation, they politicize and exaggerate to such a degree that they come off in a very bad way toward rational individuals.

It should be mentioned that stuff like this is typically baked into a gadzillion-page document presented to senators days, or even hours, before the vote. This makes it humanly impossible to actually read the stuff they're voting over, and they have to go with the spin. Like calling it something like "Patriot Act".

That said, that's precisely the best reason to throw these things right out: nobody's read it, so it could bring Yosef Stalin in the back door for all we know.

It should also be noted that Senators and Reps. rarely, if ever, read these Bills.  They use staffers to read it, or as much as they can, then condense these Bills into a 1 page summary.
