Nonprofit and charity organization

I want to start a nonprofit organization or charity, and would like to know if you know or have read any useful information on the subject, such as pitfalls, legal obstacles, or how difficult the process is. 

Why doesn't everyone have their own organization if it looks so easy to start one?  Or have several at once?

There needs to be an organization called "Vote for a Third Party you dumbfucks" which would encourage voting for any third party.  With this in mind I would be supported by several different parties, even if they conflict.  Because they all have two major enemies.

I believe there are already organizations that do this, although they do not have the particular name which you suggested.
