a firearm is not required for self-defence.

i support the right to self-defence insofar as it's a valid legal excuse to prosecute justice effectively.  i do NOT support self-defence in that 'oh, we'll i can buy glocks from my local fucking k-mart so if that negro chap comes for my telly it's BLAMMO-TIME'.  that doesn't preserve society, it erodes it.

framing the idea of self-defence solely in terms of guns is symtomatic of a gun culture, and it's disgusting.
