Help the Democrats Win More!

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-13 0:47

Write the DNC and all your democrats regularly and tell them to support the 2nd Amendment!

If you don't, all the gun nuts of the USA will continue to vote in Republicans, and that means more Republican victories and administrations, and more democrat losses.

-Consider, the NRA is the most powerful non-profit organization in the USA.  They are credited with giving the last TWO* presidential elections to the Republicans (Bush), because he was a stronger supporter of the 2nd Amendment.

-"Polling data indicates that 10% of households claim to have an NRA member. That means roughly 20 million Americans align themselves with NRA."

-20% of union workers are also members of the NRA.

-There are an estimated 200 million legally owned firearms in the USA

-Polling data indicates that 10% of households claim to have an NRA member. That means roughly 20 million Americans align themselves with NRA.

-Firearms ownership in the USA is at an all time high.

Keeping all this in mind, I'd say the democrats' position on guns is hurting them, especially in pro-gun USA.  The USA is a gun-loving country.

Want the democrats to win more elections? Write them letters, and ask them to change their position on private ownership of firearms, and the 2nd Amendment.  It's for their sake.

Even if you don't care about the 2nd Amendment, but you want to see the dems win, write them letters and tell them to change their policies.  It is really hurting them, and gun control is illogical and pointless anyhow.

Contact what liberals are still in office and ask them to change their policy on this vital issue.  Again, even if you don't care about this issue, but you support other issues supported by the democrats, this is a way to make the democrats more popular.

You won't hurt them by sending an email, and in all likelyhood, you will help them get elected in the future.  Send them emails so they won't get punished as badly at the polls.  Show them that gun control is a dead issue, and that there isn't support in it, and they will back off.  They want to get elected, after all.

Together, lets change the democratic party!

More than 10% of households are opposed to gun ownership, so I definately support your plan.

>>1 Very true.

"Some people credit the NRA's heavy campaigning in Arkansas and Tennessee in the weeks before the 2000 Presidential Election with swaying voters from Al Gore and causing him to lose both states. Had Gore won either state, he would have won the presidency. Bill Clinton won both states in 1992 and 1996, and Clinton has even remarked in interviews since 2000 that the only reason Arkansas voted for George W. Bush was because of the NRA's extremely heavy campaigning on the theme that Gore would "take their guns". Bush won Arkansas 51%-46% vs. Gore and won Tennessee 51%-47%."

The wording in the last sentence is a little hard to grasp--to clarify for everyone, they are saying Bush won BOTH those states.

I thought it was funny how Kerry put so much effort into making people think he was pro-gun, pro-2nd amendment.  (The whole hunting thing comes to mind.)

Common folks, Kerry tried to conceal the fact that we was vehemently anti-gun because he knew it would kill him at the polls.  (His voting record is very anti-gun, which is why the NRA opposed him, for sure.)

Who knows, maybe in '08 Kerry and Hillary will go on a duck hunting trip or something...:D

Nah.  Let's write Republicans and tell them to stop being anti-abortion and anti-pornography.  Then I'm fine with them.

Well, I agree with those two things, but then there's still the NSA spying, the Patriot Act, etc.  The Republicans have their flaws as well.

There's a lot more pro-firearm people in the USA than there are who want to unrestrict pornography and such.  Firearms is an easy issue to recruit people on.

You are absolutely right.  Email your representatives, and especially your democratic representatives people!

No reason we can't do both.  Pornography is not gonna be illegal anytime soon though, I don't think.  I'm much more worried about Gun Rights... they are really up in the air at the moment.  I think it's crucial we put pressure on the elected reps to laxen gun control, and not to make any new gun control.

Gun rights and "war on terror"(read 1984 esque police state ideas) are what's currently on topic. Both Democrats and Republicans have pretty bad stance on both issues. Democrats tend to be little better on privacy issues and Republicans on gun issue.

America should tell the Republicans and Democrats to GTFO my political system and then establish proportional representation and do away with the retarded electoral collage and stop the financing of parties by private companies and persons. In a democracy, every vote should count for something and having lots of money should not let you influence the political process more than someone who has less money. Currently, american democracy is retarded. The only country that claims to be democratic and talks about freedoms and what not while being totally fails at democracy is Russia.

All I can say is, thank fuck the US has so many guns. It is a hyperpower and if it ever turns into a tyranny the whole of human civilisation is fucked.

I agree with you 100% Gun rights ftw!

>>12
I agree with this much:

"America should tell the Republicans and Democrats to GTFO"

The rest is crap.

The point is, if the democrats' platform wasn't stained with gun control, a lot more people would be voting for them.  Granted, there would also be a lot of people who would then stop voting for them.  Nonetheless, I think Gun RIGHTS is a stronger issue to support than Gun CONTROL.

Not only that, gun control is stupid, imo.

lol... imagine a gathering of 4chan progunners.

Violence in a country is a constant, that isn't dampened by removing a potential outlet. Then again, America is one of the most unique countries in the world so I have a tough time imagining very lax gun legislation having a positive effect in Scandinavia. But I think the left's package of good and bad is less disgusting than the right, despite gun control. This, however, is an accumulated opinion that is not sufficiently based on facts.

What is so bad about the right wing? They are Capitalist, and support Gun Rights/Self-Defense rights, and tend to stand up to the U.N. more than your average democrat would.

Not secular. Too many cater to unscientific homophobes and anti-feminists. I don't care about guns that much, yet I realize there is as little reason to ban guns as gay marriage, I just care more about gay marriage. Plus by ignoring environmental determinism they tend to leave many people behind, and that spreads crime. Let's not forget the extremely anti-civil crusade on drugs, or the horrible handling of the war on terruhr. I guess I prefer some kind of paradigm shift towards libertarianism, but it has to be controlled and sensible. Failing that, I think the right does more harm than the left, but that position is subject to change. Considering the latest two presidents have been the worst ever, I sincerely hope you manage to start anew.

Criminals use gays to kill people ALL the time >>19

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-16 23:29

There's less reason.  The irony about gun control is because it is a proposed solution to a problem which makes the problem worse.

Libertarians are right wing and conservative(meaning traditionalist) isn't synonymous to crazed Christian. There are even sane republicans(believe it or not) and actually more than sane democrats. You're aplying way too broad labels.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-16 23:32

>>19
Oh, and also, the political left in america is just as pro drug war as the right.  The solutions they pose to the 'drug problem' are essentially the same.

Your comments about the war in iraq are true, but keep in mind, not all right wingers support the war.  I'm sure many of them don't give a shit one way or another, or, maybe are for some of the other things within the "package deal" known as George Bush that make it worthwhile voting for him just to keep Kerry out of office.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-16 23:44

Libertarians don't support war and they're right wing.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 0:33

>>24
Libertarians aren't right wing or left wing, they're not part of the scale whatsoever.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 1:36

>>25
They are old school right wing, with a splash of neo-con

Name: Xel 2006-07-17 3:37

>>25 Don't give me that. There are variations inside of the libertarian movement.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 6:09

>>27
If they are not part of the scale, how can they be libertarian? Left, right is simply a measure of how many liberal/conservative dogmas you agree with and how much zeal you have for them. If you are libertarian you leave the dimension altogether.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 6:47

>>28
Left/right is just economical scale for me atleast. Left = socialism and right = capitalism.

Name: Xel 2006-07-17 7:11

>>29 Then there is a social scale, but considering how you need government in order to regulate lives and businesses, I guess it is actually a triangle, with conservatives pulling backwards or standing still in one corner, and liberals and socialists pulling towards two other corners at 60 degrees each. An isosceles triangle.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 7:16

>>30
I tend to classify social scale authotarian and liberal(real meaning of it), cause both left and right can be either authoritarians or liberals.

With a democratic party system you inevitably get 2 parties. Those who oppose the ruling party and those who support it. The 2 most powerful try to attract together as many popular groups as they can that are not associated with it and convince different groups of the merits of the other groups they attract as part of the deal, this has developped into a complex culture that is liberalism and conservatism.

However they are a mix of logical and illogical ideas and often both of their ideas are illogical. Within the 2 major parties, ideals are usually contradictory and rely on logical fallacies, ignorance and paranoia in order to justify the inevitable double standards their thinking causes.

Political parties should aim to give the public what they want, but not to gain as much power as possible by convincing them to vote for them by any means possible. This cannot be prevented, unless you want to restrict freedom of speech. The only cure is to make logical inconsistency within parties a vote loser and vote for parties that make sense and do not rely on witch hunts and paranoia to keep people voting for them.

There's some political quizzes.  They'll show you scales at the end as well.

Enjoy.
