IS CHINA'S GOVERNMENT MEAN?

a lot of countries have their own problems with their governments, but damn, the chinese in particular seem to be pretty heavyhanded in their treatment of their citizens. is this just an exaggeration perpetuated by the media or are they really proper mean?

Maybe.  But, whether or not Communism as a system of government can be enforced in non-authoritarian methods is very doubtful to me.  I see the authoritarianism as a necessary additive to the mixture in order to keep people subservient.

On the contrary, in free market capitalism, if you want, nothing is stopping you from go joining a commune or something.  (Non-violent communism for you.)
