I wish that the world would be a dystopia like in George Orwell's 1984. Discuss.

Well China and North-Korea are pretty close to it. UK is also worth mentioning they aren't as strict or brutal, but they're even more creepier and their surveillance actually works, unlike in China & North-Korea. You can go live in those countries if you need some 1984.

Were the Proles always monitored or were they just monitored after the main character fucked up and gave away his location? You can't tell when he's looking behind the picture frame the first time.

Don't forget USA, with their secret phone tappings. That's pretty close as well.

Hehe, not that bad really and that's practiced in about every other country too. You should note that they don't tap randomly people or everyone, just selected "terrorists" and getting on that list ain't easy. It sucks still though and should be put to end, but it's nothing like China or even UK.
That's what they SAY. The partiot act has been used more and more for non-terrorism purposes. the US the even worse than UK when it comes to that regard.

The world is the dystopia Orwell foretold. What the OP wants is a scifi adventure where he can fight the MTV revolution.
Unfortunately, he won't get it. The most Orwellian societies of the future will be 'lawful' and 'fair,' much the same as they are today. Nothing will change but the technology and the totality.

Trying to FIGHT THE POWER in a democracy must be one of the stupidest ideas that people have taken seriously.

1984 wasn't just about surveillance, it was also the reasonning that made the totalitarianism so complete. No families, city walls, bars only sell you one type of drink and it is laced with pacifying drugs and the bar is full of propoganda. People are only given time and space to think if it is absolutely necessary, the main character was probably the luckiest of the proles as he was not enslaved and forced into doing the same task over and over from birth to deat without ever being taught how to speak etc etc..

What? I just said he was a prole/proletariat/working class, he was given space to think for himself so he could carry out his duties. Other proles were either starving outside the city walls or in factories in maximum security prison like conditions forced to perform manual labour for their entire lives receiving only the most basic form of language as their education.

A common misconception is that North Corea is less free than amerika. That conception is wrong. amerika is the least free country in this era. The government is totalitarian, they set their own rules. There was once a time when they had a constitution, but it has not been respected since 2001.
