Communism!

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-11 13:44

I like it. Does anyone else like it? If not, please explain why.

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-11 13:55

societies work best with minimal entropy (i.e. free market capitalism). thus communism couldn't work even in principle.

I mean, What?

Please give examples of societies that work best using the free market capitalism system.  If you feel like using the United States as an example, please explain how a country that has the highest poverty rates and greatest differentiation between the rich and the poor is working better than other, more socialist countries in Europe.

Capitalism the rich get richer and the poor get poorer
Communism everyone is poor.

Doesn't matter if you are poor in a communist state though.

Gap between rich and poor is integral part of capitalist system. You can't create system that is good for everybody. Another man's utopia is another's dystopia.

I like the idea of communism. But the commies of today are just to softcore =/

Difference between communist and capitalist is the level of efficiency of resource creation and distribution. Greater efficiency means more likely to survive external shocks.

Communism is cruise control for Soviets.

I don't give a shit what kind of society people choose to live in as long as it's a choice. I don't believe that any government has the right to force communistic principles on individuals--> (I'm sad to say that that's becoming an offensive word these days...) Even if, according to communism, communism's ultimate goal is no government, it is utterly ridiculous to think that people will remain in a state of mutually supportive harmony after the government is gone... No matter what level you look at it on, communism, in short, sucks. Unless you choose to live under it... It sucks.

When Nixon visited the USSR, Brezhnev showed him a Soviet phone of the latest technology in which it was possible to call Hell. Nixon called the Devil. The conversation cost only 27 Kopecks.

Upon returning to America, Nixon told everyone about the Soviet marvel. But as it turned out such a phone had been invented in America a long time ago. Nixon again called Hell, but this time the conversation cost 12 thousand dollars!

Nixon, understandedly upset, cried, 'But in the USSR a phone call to Hell costs only 27 kopecks!'

'Yes sir, but there it was a local call.'

Many of the capitalist systems cormmunists use to justify cormmunism are in fact cormmunist. Any government monopoly over the economy is cormmunism, the government which was corrupting Venezuela's crude oil business was cormmunist in practice, capitalist in name. From a rational perspective nothing has changed in Venezuela since before and after Chavez came to power, just the person in charge. Though I guess Chavez is willing to admit he is a communist.

Democratic-capitalism is the best form of government. For things which must be a monopoly, such as the police, they should be run by civil servants who are judged and disciplinned by political parties that compete with each other for votes. For most of the economy where monopolies are unneccesary, then money should be the determinning factor. In a perfect communism there would be 1 big coffee shop extraordinaire in every high street, it would be wonderful, with an economical infrastructure and it would have all the customers needed to fun every inch of coffee demand possible. However the world isn't perfect, the incentive just isn't there. Capitalism is just more practical, the coffee shops spend money on advertising and are split into different groups, but these groups compete and the advertising has to tell the truth because of the laws made democratically. Maybe in the distant future a new system will be made which will allow businesses to cooperate instead of compete and do so in a manner which encourages effort and determination. Until then capitalism is the answer and democracy combined with other methods of ensuring determination for things which should be monopolies.

Capitalist oriented systems produce all products you see today because people are rewarded when coming up with a new and interesting product. When the government controls the system, creativity is stifled, and lack of reward means people will not create new products.

There'd be no Xbox, PS3, Revolution, or credit cards in communist controlled systems.

I like the idea. Would it work?

No.

People are stupid.

But >>26 ftw, though. Video Games = <3

Yes there would but there would just be shitty patriotic games. See: America's Army for a good example of a shitty state-produced game. Imagine all the soldiers as wearing red coats and furry hats instead of fatigues and ugly-ass helmets and there you go.

Democratic capitalism only works if the system is periodically crashed so that wealth from the upper levels of the economy can be redistributed back into the lower levels of the economy.  Given that so many American politicians are being bankrolled by corporate lobbying, nobody is carrying out the duty of keeping the corporations from growing unreasonably and becoming monopolies.

Great Depression II, here we come.

the bible has periodic 'jubilees' in which debts are cleared, slaves are released, etc, thus ensuring the stability of the economy. (btw, ever hear of a fundementalist call for them to be introduced?)

No government has enough money to convert to communism now, but if one were to begin small with it and maintain it without corruption for long enough, it could work. the reason no country could become communist is because "pure communism"; communism where there is no government and the people share everything, will never exist. there has to be a non-corrupt governing body that controls everything. no government can afford that.

i prefer socialism. it has all of the humanitarian benefits (equal oppourtinities, the necessities of life are guaranteed, etc.), but there is a market economy. it is simply a very tightly monitored and restricted market economy.
