Google helps to censor the web in China

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-28 15:08

In China, its illegal to talk about controversal politics online. Not only this, but Google and other major search engines are actually helping the Chinese government censor the net over there:

If you ever found out Google was censoring *your* results, would you boycott thier site? Do you agree with what Google and other major search engines have chosen to do?

At least that's better than what Yahoo did.

what did yahoo do?

Yahoo do that voodoo that they do.

It sucks, sure, but that's just the way they do things over there.  All societies have their own norms and customs.  "freedom" just happens to be one of ours.

I know it may come as a shock to most of you, but the morals that you hold dear aren't exactly universal.

Police State is always bad, especially when the country is damn big like China. It's threat to our Western way of life, admit it or not.

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-29 3:43

So when you want them to be "free" you are actually putting them at a disadvantage?

Interesting way of seeing things...  So you say that just because there exists a country where "rights" are denied, that it is a threat to our own way of life?

Why? Are they competition to our own police state?

USA is the only country which matters.

With China's introduction into the world economy, there's going to be a lot of forced transparency. They won't be able to get away with what they used to. And besides, their power only really effected those within metropolitan cities, rural families couldn't care less about the govt.

China's already a world power, now all it needs to be is the biggest.

And I for one, welcome our fascist overlords.

Yet another concern regarding the global economy...

China will adopt american values or continue to be poor.

economic system != social values

Name: Anonymous 2006-11-21 13:35

Oh but you're quite wrong there.  The structure of your economics inherently molds your social structure.

However, China doesn't have to adopt all aspects of our economic system to be successful on the global market.  They have the advantage in domestic labor and resources.

China = America

I support China as they will crush libertarians.

Name: Anon 2006-12-13 18:50

??? China = America  I don't get it...

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-13 21:40

China is so far up its own ass there is no helping them. Google reigns supreme, all hail Google! Google for President 2008.

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-14 0:24

For a while China will have tons of cheap skilled mechanized labour. Eventually though the labour will realise equality isn't as important as liberty and they can use their important position in the economy to influence the government without retribution.

Don't change these.
