Afghani christian to be executed

If you read the news you might have stumbled across this.
Abdul Rahman, a former muslim who lived for some years in germany
and converted to christianity there, is now facing
death row in Afghanistan, because he converting from islam
means death in their sense of law.

What did the US soldiers fight for in this land?
Where's freedom and democracy?
What are the stationed troops like germany doing there?
Is this all a waste of time, should they use force?!
