SAITAMA — The Satama District Court on Tuesday sentenced a 27-year-old former police officer to 2000 years in prison for abducting forty elementary schoolgirls between 2001 and 2004.
The defendant, Hiroyuki Tomita, was found guilty of forcing the girls into his car between July 2001 and February 2004 in Saitama prefecture, and of attempting to kidnap another girl in Saitama in May 2001. He was indicted on charges of abduction for sexual purposes. Tomita told the court that he committed the crimes as an act of revenge against his father, who he said had abused him since his childhood.
