Dubai Ports Deal

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-15 18:16

The whole fiasco highlighted the ignorance and xenophobia of the average US citizen. Discuss.

I loled

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-17 5:03

Once again Bush lies."i had no idea until the deal was done."What a liar.If it is true, what kind of president does not know what the hell is going on in his own country. He is a very unique character isn't he?

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-17 11:50

He's only as clueless as the people that voted him in. The funny thing is his base went against him when he was doing something right. Total lolstrom.

You guys don't seem to understand that we were manipulated into this Xenophobia of Arab by our media and our administration. Thing is: SO WAS ANY COUNTRY THAT WAS ALLIED WITH US IN THIS WAR ON TERROR.

The same shit happens in other countries as well, where they manipulate people through propaghanda. Regardless it's not "right" that other countries own our ports like that and this situation still doesn't address the shit security we have.

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-17 17:01

So what if YOU were manipulated, does it make it ok? You tried to justify the xenophobia. What about the ignorance?

"own our ports like" what? Do you have any idea how it works? Or do you just believe what YOUR media tells you? Other countries owning our ports is nothing new as you've probably heard. How is any different that a Japanese company buying land and opening up a plant here? Tehy could be producing weapowns OH NOES! Let's be isolationists. That's the most reasonable thing to do.

>Let's be isolationists. That's the most reasonable thing to do.

No shit! I sure as hell don't want any chinese or arabs having a free passage way to sneak drugs or weapons in to the US.

Hilarity.  After 5 years of listening to the right wing nutcases tell us how the arab demons are going to kill us all (O'Reilly, Pat Robertson, need I go on?) and how people who are against profiling are in league with the terrorists and want us all to die (O'Reilly, Pat Robertson, need I go on?), suddenly people are profiling against the arabs, and now the neocons are crying like little girls and whining about how we're all racist and trying to be all liberal hippie PC about this, when it's their fault in the first place.

You seriously think the President personally looks at every matter that needs to be approved by the executive branch? Every citizenship application, every FBI report?  I can't figure out whether you're trolling or stupid.

>>6
So when people in the media are debating the sale and the administration supports it, that's manipulating people into being xenophobic?

>>10
blah blah nutcases blah blah racism blah blah O'Reilly

number 4 might be trolling, but 1 thing is 4 sure.If it has to do with arabia,Bush will most likely know about it.Its not a minor case. After 9 11,some arabs want to buy and control ports in america. After all, most of the terrorists are from there.People will want to run that kind of national security info by the president.Conservative boy.

"USA doesn't own all USA ports"
implies
"USA doesn't control all USA ports"

Which is untrue. The same laws apply to everyone on USA soil whether they own it or not, and one attack perpetrated through one of your ports means you lose like a billion dollars annually thanks to the loss of the port and the new fines/fees you have to pay to get your stuff into the country. A pro-capitalist place like Dubai is not going to let some nutjob through their port and lose a ridiculous amount of revenue and savings.

End of thread.

Ya, you tell them. Those foreigners might undercut are domestic gun and drug trade.

Yeah thats right.Arabia controlling ports is like Arabia controlling some airports.Major national Security issue that would have to be approved by if not the President himself, certainly the information had to circulate in the whitehouse. So he must have had some idea.Arabians and Bushes have been huge partners in business for decades.Hell, the Bush family and the Bin Ladens even vacationed together. This is weel known that they two families are good friends.

I know you're joking, but since all drugs except meth come from foreign countries, if you cut off immigration you'd SIGNIFIGANTLY reduce drug smuggling as well.

"Some people believe the answer to this problem is to wall off our economy from the world," Bush said this month in India, talking about the migration of U.S. jobs overseas. "I strongly disagree."

I think some silly things are being ignored.

1. It's not like we're taking the ownership of the ports from Americans and handing it to Dubai.  Some British company had owned the ports... Some PRIVATE British company.  Which Dubai bought.

2. No one seems to know what "Owning" the ports entails.  It's not like things don't go through customs still.  American's are involved in the process.

>>11

Fine. No he doesn't.  But that's been his excuse EVERY TIME the shit has hit the fan.  No one warned him about 9/11, he said, no one warned him about Katrina, he said, no one mentioned that the company that owns the US ports was being bought out.  To not know the fine minute details of everything is fine, but that's just being oblivious.

>>9
Well, since 2001, there has been very little in the way in attempts to bomb the US either.  Israel?  Yes.  Sri-Lanka?  Yes.  Somalia?  Yes.  BRITAIN?  Yes.  SPAIN?  Yes.  America? No.

>>16
That is so not true.  Some people grow their own crap in The States.  Of course the really fun stuff would be impossible to get.  Just think, getting ANYTHING would be like trying to get Cuban Cigars.

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-23 12:53 (sage)

>>How is any different that a Japanese company...

The difference is that it's a company owned by a foreign GOVERNMENT.  The ports that were sold were owned by a foreign company to begin with.  That's a who-cares situation.

Don't change these.
