bush nominates someone impossible, lets it stew a few weeks, then when everybody is so fed up and red-faced from the situation, they pull her out.

guarantee the next nominee is another roberts that sails through because everyone is so thankful to be over with miers.

see: any UN vote ever. the US asks for radical, fucked up changes, then they withdraw and ask for what they originally wanted and the UN is so thankful they give it.
