Maybe this would go into the science field, since it's psychology, but...
If you are a furfag, why are you a furfag? What is your psychological attraction to being a furfag?

Attraction.

Yeah, this is really more science than anything else. but anyway. being a furfag, I can offer my views.
One theory (which I feel holds water) is that since it's a weird subculture with weird people, a voluntary "prison sexuality" sort of sets in, wherein someone who is sexually confused (thus discovering the subculture in the first place) conflates the furfag identity with the gay identity. Gays are extremely adept at sub-subcultural adaptation and this is just one more symptom of that.
Also, putting aside all the flakes, fatsos, ugly porn (there is good porn, honest!) and dog fuckers (which pretty much sums it up, lol) for one second, think about the basic idea of the subculture. You have sex and cuddle with a humanoid creature with nice soft fur.
The reason why this fetish exists now, like most fetishes, is cultural and historical. sadomasochism takes a lot of aesthetic cues from things that people were also living at the same time (strict rules, maid outfits, whips from stables, etc). There was a hankerchief fetish back in the 19th century, simply because that's what everybody saw. Anime and comics are now ubiquitous, so furry is a somewhat logical result of that.

Well, in my case, I was exposed to a lot of cutesy cartoons and furry-type video games in my childhood... Such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Tiny Toons, etc. Once I grew up a bit, I mean hell, I started thinkin' Babs was kinda sexy. =3
And of course movies like Bambi, Robin Hood, The Fox and the Hound, Lion King, and various other Disney furry-indoctrinating type movies.
And then along came the movie Space Jam, and, well...

Unlimited pwnage hax.
gtfo of this discussion, sensible logic has no place with furries! Just look at the large amount of straight ticket Republicans and Democrats into it.

Fetishes probably have something to do with psychosexual development or something. Like, maybe the kid was watching that kind of stuff when he was first getting those hormone rushes or what not.

<Usarname:Inst> I can get off to "GOOD" furry porn, where the anatomy and artistic quality facilitates a boner. Bad furry porn, same as you. It's just that it meets certain notions of what is sexy. I have no specific preference for furry porn, of course, so I am interested in the preference of people who do.
Why do you think you are really an animal? Why do you constantly use animals to depict youself?

I don't think there is any good furry porn, especially where ANY of the physical features outside of the ears and tails of animals. When they stary giving them cat and dog anuses and nasty shit like that, then it sucks.
Anime gets it right though, emphasizing instead the cute features of an animal without going into the animal actually being an animal. Nekomimi is like, more human, you know? They are like people with personalities that we'd associate with being catlike, not actual catlike qualities.

Good furry porn, from my point of view, tries to downplay the animal nature, like you said, but I don't find that it should emphasize the cute features. What I like in good furry porn is the emphasis on musculature, which is rare in hentai.
I still haven't gotten a satisfactory answer explaining the appeal of furfagdom ;_;.....

Not really an answer, but watch Bagi. Pre-discovery Bagi is basically what I imagine they're trying for in their own stories/characters, but failing miserably. Odd that for people that love it so, they can't seem to get it right. Rainforest Bagi is another good example. (you'll understand when you get there...) I believe emphasising the human part is what's creating the dwama, so they should accept what they are and drop it. Emphasising the human side of these creatures leads them to believe they really ARE these creatures.

You probably won't. They can't agree on even what defines it themselves. Take it from an experienced basher. Some say only those that attend cons/wear fursuits are furry. Some say you at least need anthropomorphic characters. Some even go so far as to claim drawing anything not human makes you furry. Giger and his xenos, or Don Bluth being 'furry' for instance. Not their works, themselves. That last group also likes to co-opt ancient civilizations a lot, like Vikings. All depends on which group you're currently antagonizing I would say.

Thanks Vinz. So be helpful and join me on my next thread, the "STALKXX)RZ OF THE WORLD UNITE" where we attempt to dissect the psychology of stalkers.
