Should the Island of Formosa belong to China?

Name: Anonymous 2005-02-23 13:39

Well, I hate this piece of land because they churn out tasteless pop music(like the US, but in the worst language possible for singing) and that I believe the PRC should just invade the entire island, just for fun.

Still, political tension between it and the PRC is gonna be interesting to note.

In shart: Discuss.

Name: Anonymous 2005-02-23 15:03

Yes, but not until the commies hold real elections on the mainland. China will never invade, the US would have to join in then and it would be a huge war.

I disagree heavily with you on CPOP.

And I actually think it's the old fake communist state of China what should modernize and join Taiwan in democracy (supressing the 1 country, 2 systems idea for Hong Kong and Macau in the process).

Name: Anonymous 2005-02-23 23:35

Hmm...before we discuss this, i believe an issue of far more importance is that little coral island in dispute between China and Japan. Diaoyu island, i think they call it. Because let's face it, if China and Formosa go to war, unless US interferes, there should be no major warfare. But if China and Japan go to war...

worst langugage for singing is korean

There should be a death-metal band called Stÿmröllÿr.

Didn't China say that they'd invade Taiwan in 2008 unless they reunited before that time period?

Fuck Taiwan and fuck the Generalissimo.  Fuck logic while we're at  it.  If Hawaii broke off, we'd have an itch to scratch until it was repatriated, because zomg: teh universe is not COMPLETED.  that's kind of how you have to understand this.

Name: Anonymous 2005-03-17 3:34

lol and hawaii belongs to japan anyway, check the major land owners... they arent californians.. but japan is our best friend economically so its no problem at all

a direct scuffle with china about taiwan could be world war 5

considering world war 3 was the cold war when superpowers were bipolar and you had notions of mutually assured destruction keeping the shit from blowing up

and considering world war 4 is the long-haul 'war on terror' which can be seen as an effort to spread democracy faster than by passive means in order to neutralize state-less terrorist organizations by removing their breeding grounds(this means aggressive global democratization)

though china seems smarter than to blow it all over a silly island, taiwan independance would become a success story in a counter-system process, taiwan was infected by capitalsm, and capitalism brought democracy with it. taiwan also happens to be geographically detached from the central power, so they if anyone can succeed from china it would be taiwan. the fear is that other profitable regions of china may see taiwans success as weakness of the central chinese power system. china is not one country with one people, very many years ago china annexed major distinct portions of the asian land mass, china will come down from the inside if these individual factions are reawakened,  patriotic in this context is an understatement

chinas ruling class grows desperate by the day to keep a lid on the billion of slavelaboring chinese individuals who will want their equal rights eventually.... but china has an edge, they are using the most advanced communication technologies from major firms like cisco, they are designed with the purpose to index and profile by a central monitoring system, morso than simply adding a logging feature like is done with cisco products over here. so chinas edge might last them a while.. but inevitably the chinese individual wont stand for it once they realize the collective power they can wield against the outrageously corrupt central system

america like all democracies have a true vote on their president and government members, corruption is kept to a roar... the chinese ruling power is just shameless compared to the democratized world

You silly fools, the world belongs to China!

It's simply not a matter of "should" or "should not", because Island of Formosa IS China's territory. It's so sad that half of Taiwanese are fooled by their government into thinking that China doesn't dare to lay a finger on them if they declare independence. Oh well. just wait and see.

Name: Anonymous 2005-04-05 18:14

Actually, the official policy of the Taiwanese government is that they're the government of all of China, with the PRC government being illegal usurpers.

NAPOLEON COMPLECKS IDIOT

Name: Anonymous 2007-10-07 18:40

The Republic of China which exists on Taiwan is it's legitimate government, and a much kinder one than the People's Republic which exists on the mainland. Both have just as much claim to all of China, though I think they should just rather let the people decide on whether they should remain independent or rejoin the mainland as a Special Economic Zone.

Name: Anonymous 2007-10-07 20:10

China has 0 claim to Taiwan, they just dig up obscure shit the same way they try to claim everything around them

But it doesn't matter, deluded citizens on both side actually think there's going to be war over independence.  The only reason China would attack Taiwan is to quell civil unrest, the leaders aren't that stupid.

The Mainlanders are the ones buying into PRC propaganda that Taiwan actually belongs to them

Taiwanese Chink here.

Basically, my views are thus;

#1
Our president is batshit insane, I can't believe people voted for him a second time, really.

#2
There'd be no problem in the first place if the politicians hadn't muddled up the water, most of the people here are ethnically and culturally Chinese.

#3
I favor improved ties between Taiwan and Mainland, eventually leading to reunification in some form or another.

Name: Anonymous 2008-01-01 12:16

Reunification wouldn't happen unless either
*Taiwan gives up its democratic government
*China democratizes (won't happen soon, if ever)

amirite?

Hence the "eventual" part.

Name: Anonymous 2008-01-01 16:05

China will split into lots of different countries like Europe, as it should have been from the beginning.

Name: RedCream 2008-01-01 17:50

Taiwan is a Chinese issue.  The US has no right whatsoever to even speak on the issue.

Name: Anonymous 2008-01-02 2:29

But it will, so your point is irrelevant.

Name: Anonymous 2008-01-02 4:51

Taiwan is a Taiwanese issue.

Don't change these.
