81% of new jobs go to foreigners

Name: The Sun 2011-07-18 13:09

A STAGGERING 81 per cent of new jobs across Britain are going to foreigners, shock figures revealed yesterday.

Employment has surged to a two-year high in a huge boost to the Chancellor.

But of 411,000 net posts created in the year to April, 334,000 went to people born outside the UK. Some 129,000 have gone to east Europeans.

Experts said the figures show the huge challenge facing the Government. MigrationWatchUK chairman Sir Andrew Green called it proof Brits are being "undercut" by cheap foreign labour.

He told The Sun: "These are striking figures. The immigration lobby can no longer pretend immigration has very little effect on British workers' job prospects."

The Sun revealed two months ago that Tesco was advertising in Slovakia for store managers to work in Britain, while manufacturing giant Doosan flew in Filipino welders to work on a power station.

A Department of Work and Pensions spokeswoman said ministers were reforming the system to try and encourage Brits off benefits and into work.

Yesterday's figures showed that overall, unemployment fell by 36,000 to 2.46million in the three months to the end of March.

Youth jobless fell 30,000 to 936,000.

The number of women on jobseekers allowance hit a near 15-year high.

Ministers put this down to mums coming off income support back into the job market.

Overall employment reached 29.24 million, the highest since January 2009.

Employment minister Chris Grayling said: "We have a long way to go."

CBI president Helen Alexander last night said the Government still had "masses to do" on the economy.

GREECE plans to "redouble" efforts to slash debts. Experts fear the nation is bust and may default on debts despite a £95billion bailout last year, triggering a new Europe-wide crisis.

Last I checked, nothing says "Ain't Chav this'un, Gov, honest!" like being foreign. Could be that's why.

If British unions had balls, they'd threaten with a universal strike unless a law is written that foreigners can only work in UK if absolutely no UK-born person alive can do the same job.

I think all of the first world nations should implement a "local first" policy. As in all businesses, corporations etc, have a legal obligation to hire a local national first, and can incur fines if they fail to do so. Of course to make this fair to the businesses, the government also has a legal obligation to ensure fair and reasonable wages, as to not overburden said businesses.

We can't have a "local-first" policy, because it would be discriminatory, and against the rule of free employment within the EU.  We had to fight tooth and nail to get the initial restrictions on Bulgaria and Romania when they joined up.  In any case, the total number of unemployed includes immigrants.  When they say 2,4 million unemployed, they don't mean 2.4 million people Brits.

In the end, the reason immigrants end up undercutting the locals is because Brits are so socially gentrified that they can't bring themselves to do the menial jobs that immigrants end up doing.

Since the UK doesn't use Euro, you might as well replace your EU membership with joining EEA. Your inner politics would be yours to decide and you would keep pretty much all the trade benefits of non-Euro countries.

The thing is foreigners work harder longer than local people.
They can also accept lower salaries. Plus, many of them have really good educational backgrounds.

So if the local people worked/studied as hard as foreign people, no company would want to hire outsiders instead of locals.

And we cannot force local comapanies to hire lazy people instead of useful people, because it means a lot of them would loose the economic war.

But one more bad thing for the UK is, as a result of Sachar's economic retreat, the manufacturing industries, which are usually the heart of the nation's economy, had all gone and alternatively financial companies (30% of all British industies) have remain there.

If the nation is driven by financial industries and investments, we anyhow need to gather massive amount of forign capitals. And once the forigners stop lending money to the UK, the UK would immediately go bankrupt.

As a result of this situation, the City has always needed to proove itself as holding the world's best financial companies with world's best workers to let forign investers trust them.

This is the way of finance.Probably Sachar should've noticed how much it is unstable & dangerous for the nation relying on financial industries.

But it's too late. British external debt has already reached 500% of its GDP. Nothing, even EU or US, cannot help this situation. Britain has to keep the way they are, and if it has a good luck, it won't become Iceland.

At least, it still has a right to issue currency, unlike other stupid nations in EU. That's sth British people should really appreciate.

What I want to say is since the ara of Sachar, UK has been unable to escape from being a slave of the financial market.

If the financial market expects them to invite more forigners, they should do it (unless they accept their bankrupt).

really sorry about that.

This is what sheltered retards actually believe.

Go to US, Germany, Japan or wherever people are richer than UK.

U'd be shocked at how hard people are actually working compared to British.

It's true but also he forgot to add that locals know their rights (for example, you can't be fired for no reason) where as foreigners don't always realize what they're entitled to, and even if they do, in many cases they're too afraid to claim anything for fear of losing their job security.

im impressed this threat hasnt totally degenerated into hurpa durpa i haet ragheads!

dude it's bc companies view labor as an expense, and they just want the cheapest workers possible.

Anyone who has seen what a typical young British man is like would not be shocked to find out that employers prefer foreigners.

Oh wow, you can't be fired for no reason in the UK?

Damn, in the US, every single non-union job makes you sign a contract that specifically states, in bold, "WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO FIRE YOU FOR ANY REASON, INCLUDING NO REASON AT ALL.  WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO FIRE YOU AND NOT TELL YOU WHY."

I die a little inside everytime I read it....

What sort of shit tier job do you work? Any real work will generally have a clause preventing you from working in the same specific field for X years in exchange for being kept on as a consultant after being "fired"

You can be fired for no reason.  The specific list of grounds for dismissing someone includes "some other substantial reason", and an unscrupulous boss can basically make shit up if challenged about it.

Don't change these.
