People in power have always hated whistleblowers.  Why?  It's not just for the obvious direct reason.  More important in the LONG RUN is that the great majority of the serious abuse of position problems (many of which are not attributed to whistleblowers) were originally the result of "tipsters" (aka "whistleblowers").   So, those with power dread whistleblowers and seek to weaken the system that protects whistleblowers.   Reagan did a lot for that as there was still a lot of ill will about whisteblowers such as Deep Throat.  The gov't had imprisoned reporters before who did not reveal the whistleblowers, but could not do this to Woodward & Berstein because the Washington Post knew of many things that could be reported upon in revenge for forcing the reporters to divulge sources.

I give China more cred.  The US tries to hide their shit and later tries to tell you how good it was murder the supposed "terrorists" or how being naked body scanned is awesome.  China just says, we're gonna fucking do it.  Period.

I hope Wikileaks buries the US govt, but I suspect if Wikileaks becomes too successful I suspect its owners and major donors will end up in some SOP CIA one-car accidents.

I think the issue stems not from the Wikileaks site (Someone will always get the info out) but from whoever leaked it to the site.

Wikileaks is merely a symptom of a greater affliction. What we perhaps need to do is not to focus upon the symptoms but to seek out the disease which gives rise to them. Resistance results wherever there is repression brought about by a cast-iron system. Absolute transparency contra absolute secrecy; Wikileaks is the antithesis of secrecy or it attempts to be, but we find as all things extrema a quality of self-negation. When moderation goes too far, it inadvertently becomes extremity. The most militant feminists, in their quest to achieve equality for women becomes overly absorbed, and consequently loses sight of their original intentions. What results is they demand they are afforded the same rights as men, and thence paradoxically as their demands are satisfied they exude more masculinity and end up being the abomination they so wished to chastise - they end up the image of men. Wikileaks do not therefore have my unmoderated support, but as a reaction against an increasingly oblique world, it is a legitimate and valid reaction. What we need now is debate - is dialogue - to heed the voice of reason and deal with the issue as best as possible with equanimity and come to the best conclusion with the aid of intelligence and love.

Power which is now concentrated in an oligarchy of individuals will have to be distilled into a benign substrate if it is to be made innocuous. I do not think this impossible nor contradictory. Power which is innocuous is benevolent not powerless. A democracy cannot be the hegemony of the few over the many. Power in a democratic society must be distributed equally amongst it's subjects. If power is not evenly distributed, does it fail to qualify as democracy since the conditionals are not met?

(It seems at this point, power being of a finite amount, by distributing it evenly across its subjects, I have made it paltry. This is perplexing and I must admit I have lost myself here.)
