SILVERHILL, Ala. (AP) - A couple checked into a recreational vehicle park with their two-year-old foster son, but were sent packing when the park's owner learned the child has the HIV virus.
Dick Glover of Saraland said the owner of Wales West RV park near Silverhill demanded a doctor's letter about the child's condition before allowing the child use of the swimming pool and showers.
Wales West owner Ken Zadnichek said the Glovers were not evicted. He said he asked for a letter from a doctor or the health department as a safeguard that the child could not infect others.
The incident occurred Sunday and the couple moved to another RV park the next day.
Wales West features steam and diesel locomotives on a railway that circles a small lake. Silvia Glover said the boy "loves trains," which is why they chose the park.
Federal health officials say the HIV virus is NOT transmitted through day to day activities such as shaking hands, hugging, or a casual kiss.
The Glovers said they plan to adopt the boy.
