Israeli Airstrikes on Lebanese Army Base

Israel is ratcheting up its battle with militants in Lebanon by launching its first strike on that country's military. Lebanese police report Israeli warplanes hit an army base near the Syrian border. Jets dropped two bombs that damaged the runway, but there are no reports of casualties.

The target was Lebanon's main military air base, which also serves as the military headquarters for the eastern part of the country.
While the Lebanese army has largely stayed out of the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel, this could pull them into it. Israel has made it clear it holds the Beirut government responsible for the abduction of two soldiers by militants.
