SAITAMA — A 34-year-old woman was indicted Friday for allegedly killing two children from her daughter's kindergarten in Saitama, Saitama Prefecture, investigators said. Prosecutors indicted Zheng Yongshan, a Chinese national, on charges of murder and weapons control law violation after psychiatric exams found that she can be held criminally responsible.
Zheng is charged with fatally stabbing Wakana Taketomo and Jin Sano, both 5, with a kitchen knife on the morning of Feb 17 while taking the children in a carpool to the kindergarten that her daughter and they attended. Zheng has told police that she killed the two as her daughter was alienated by other children, but teachers at the kindergarten have said Zheng's 5-year-old daughter was not bullied and got along well with her peers.

SAITAMA — A 33-year-old woman in Saitama, Saitama Prefecture, is suspected of fatally stabbing her two young children before attempting to kill herself. Police said Friday they plan to question Miki Yoshida on suspicion of killing her son Shuma, 4, and daughter Juri, 1, at their home. A note apparently written by her, reading, "I'm sorry. Goodbye," was found.
The woman's husband, hotel employee Kunihiko Yoshida, 51, found the children dead from stab wounds in the home's second-floor nursery after he returned from work at around 12:20 p.m. The woman was found collapsed in the kitchen on the first floor with cuts to her wrist but her injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
