Iraq - Civil war backfiring?

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-11 1:47

Sounds like Al-Zarqawi's plans to incite a civil war are backfiriing on him.

Excerpt:

Insurgent groups in one of Iraq's most violent provinces claim that they have purged the region of three quarters of al-Qa'eda's supporters after forming an alliance to force out the foreign fighters.

If true, it would mark a significant victory in the fight against Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of al-Qa'eda in Iraq, and could partly explain the considerable drop in suicide bombings in Iraq recently.

"We have killed a number of the Arabs, including Saudis, Egyptians, Syrians, Kuwaitis and Jordanians," said an insurgent representative in the western province of Anbar.

The claims were partly supported by the defence ministry, which said it had evidence that Zarqawi and his followers were fleeing Anbar to cities and mountains near the Iranian border.

what are you talking about? It is working, looks like the Iraqi people are finally growing some nads and taking it to the AQ butchers? Wouldn't have happened if Saddam was still in power.

guess what welcome to real world 101, changes in power don't come about peacefuly and overnight take a gander throughout history, look no further than your own (US) independance or civil war after that. However that doesn't mean that the change shouldn't happen, if that was the case the Nazi's would still be in power because people like the ones who opose Iraq would probably have been saying the same thing then, gee "let those Germans make the change if they don't like the guy" sound familiar?

You get a F- for history. You can't compare Saddam's regime with that of the Nazi's. And I'm not telling you why. Read more or if you must; 'google'.

If Saddam were still in power, Al Qaeda would have never been in Iraq.  They hated each other, mainly because Bin Laden saw Hussein as a traitor for establishing one of the only secular governments (albeit essentially a dictatorship) in the Middle East.  Al Qaeda wasn't welcome in Iraq, just as Saddam wasn't exactly popular amongst Al Qaeda.  When the United States kicked out Saddam's regime, they left Iraq's border's relatively unprotected, and allowed for members of Al Qaeda to come in, essentially turning Iraq into Al Qaeda's new stomping ground; a huge live-fire exercise where they can hone their skills at killing Americans, just look at how effective roadside bombs have gotten over the past couple years.  Saddam had no real ties to Al Qaeda, and unlike in Afghanistan, which most intelligent people can agree was a theocracy, Al Qaeda members were not finding shelter in Iraq, until the United States made sure that they could.

Insurgents managed to push out Al Qaeda?  Well, isn't that great, the exact people that the United States Army was trying to get rid of have now managed to do yet another job the United States couldn't do in Iraq.  How does this help the U.S.'s goal in Iraq in any way?  It only helps to push the insurgents into the mainstream of Iraqi acceptance, and makes them look better: better than the United States in the eyes of many Iraqis.

I think pretty much everybody can agree that Saddam Hussein was a bastard, obviously not to the degree as Adolf Hitler as many  mouth-breathers like to state.  But he did not have WMDs, and he was not helping Al Qaeda, and sadly, at least most Iraqis could leave their house without the fear of being killed by gunfire or car bombs when Saddam was in power.  The United States has failed to establish a secular democracy in Iraq, allowing it to become yet another battleground for the main conflicting schools of interpretation of Islam, as well as another source of anti-American sentiment to be exploited by conservative religious fundamentalist groups across the Middle East.

Don't change these.
