SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican authorities have made arrests in of people who they believe interchange photographs and child pornography videos through Internet.
The detentions are part of an operation began by the Spanish Police, have been dismantled 62 "communities" of pedophiles that had connections in 40 countries in 5 continents.
It was learned that after almost a year-long investigation 2,870 connections of Internet users were detected, located in 40 countries -among them Dominican Republic- which distributed these images of minors through online "communities" of a pedophile character.
In Spain six people were arrested, and could face sentences of up to 8 years of prison. The arrested are men between 23 and 50 years of age.
The data obtained from the investigations conducted by the Police led to the arrests in Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Costa Rica, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Russia, the U.S.A., Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Philippines, France, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Papúa, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Rumanía, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, Japan and Taiwan.
When the agents uncovered these groups online, they proceeded to -in collaboration with Microsoft- to close these "communities," and attempted to locate to the users who were part of it.
Police from 39 countries, Dominican Republic included, currently seek "to identify the distributors of child pornography on the basis of the Spanish information" which has been conveyed to them, according to the same official notice.
The 62 virtual forums served as interchange of images and videos of rapes and sexual aggressions against adolescents and children, among them babies of both sexes. They were all shut down by the police.
