japanese should admit to and apologize to attrocities. They should not deny historical fact and should teach their children about what actually happened in schools. They should pay financial compensation and stop honoring the memory of horrible war criminals.
If the Japanese seriously think of the feelings of the people of its neighroing country, the Priminister Koizumie should not go to Yasukuni Shrine.

Pleased? Hardly. His opinion of ANY soldier/sailor has nothing to do with his opinion of how they are/were used by their leaders.
I respect his opinion because He Was There. Pearl. Savo Island. New Guinea. Leyte. Japanese soldiers/sailors tried many times to kill him. Damn near did. He has some who are close friends today.
A great author and WWII vet called it: "The Fraternal Brotherhood of Them what has been Shot At."

My Grandfather fought in Stalingrad - and he was not a Soviet.
And I don't give a fuck about his whining over his old wounds he got from there.
In conclusion: YES IT DOES MATTER WHETHER YOU ACCEPT COMMANDS BY HITLER OR THE PRESIDENT, WHETHER YOU ACCEPT THEM FROM THE EMPEROR OR ZARDOZ! DEATH AND DEATH ARE DIFFERENT! YOU *CAN* CHOOSE TO DIE LIKE A PIG, EVEN AS A SOLDIER/SAILOR (lol)

If people are still pissed at the Japanese soldiers, they can go to Japan, dig them up, and kill them again.
there not mad just at the jap soldiers, the soldiers' decendants think that it was a great thing they did killing and raping. People are pissed at that mentality.
Well thats just propoganda for gaijin, in japanese they are well known for their attrocity denail and war criminal worship. Read the propoganda they put out saying that the Japanese aggression was "neccisary for japans defense" and that war criminals with shittons of evidence against them were "falsly convicted by sham trials". Right, tojo is a saint. Read the wiki.

The reasoning of the ruling Japanese military junta at the time leading up to the war was very warped, from what I've read. In the early 1930s, Tojo and the rest feared a Soviet invasion, therefore they decided Japan needed raw materials for defense, so they believed it was necessary to invade Manchuria, and things got worse and worse from there. At every turn, they made the wrong choice believing they could do nothing else.
I'm not saying this to defend Tojo and the rest. He was a nut. I'm saying it wasn't just random. They reasoned logically and reasonably from bad premises and false information that they believed because they were nuts.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Yasukuni Jinja per se, but there are a few things wrong with people surrounding it. For one, some of the shrine officials are rabid right wing nuts who would like to see Japan remilitarized and who disbelieve any war atrocities committed by the Japanese, as it says so on their web page. For two, the rest of the right wing groups in Japan abuse the shrine by using it as a platform for their twisted beliefs and propaganda.
However, most people visiting Yasukuni Jinja are just ordinary Japanese people who don't believe most of this bullshit. They are poorly educated about the crimes that their nation committed during WWII, true, but that's the MoE's fault. Other than that they are just honest people who lost family in the war and come to worship and remember their dead. It's also not fair for other countries to see official visits to Yasukuni as some sort of political statement. It's not as if other countries get pissed when Bush visits a fundamentalist Baptist church, so why should Japan deserve such treatment?
Equating Japan with the crazy black-jeep driving right wingers and yakuza isn't fair. Every country has screwballs in its politics, but most of the population of any particular country doesn't support such positions.
As was stated in one of the articles, the population does want a memorial other than, and not associated with, Yasukuni.

Yasukuni is a place to pay homage and respect to those who lost their lives for their country irrespective of their role in war.
In USA, there are memorials for American soldiers who fought in Vietnam. Soldiers are tools of the government. Does that mean their life is not worth being remembered?
The problem isn't Yasukuni but Japan's neighbours feeling betrayed that Japan educates their youth by glorifying Japan's role in WWII and denying such accusations such as the use of biochemical warfare, or "Rape of Nanking" (http://museums.cnd.org/mirror/nanjing/nmnwe96.html).
Such a search for the truth and finding out the horrors of WWII is enough to drive someone insane with outrage. Iris Chang committed suicide because of such research.
If Japan wants to mend and heal the scars left on its neighbours, they should do the honorable thing by acknowledging the truth of what happened in war.
It's been more than 60 years and there has never been an official apology, not even for Nanjing, which at most was called "maybe an unfortunate incident".
History is only doomed to repeat itself if nothing can be learned from it. Japan seems to have an ambition to change the constitution and restore the right to have a military. For example sending troops to Iraq was controversial and some even see it as a first step towards that process.
I haven't done much research into this subject because it's too distressing. I think I would go crazy to find out the real truth. An apology and educating Japanese youths about the tragedy of WWII for what it really is, will go a long way to heal wounds and build friendship based on trust.

Hi, this would be my first (maybe last) time posting here and since I am half (double) Japanese and lived in Japan for 18 years, I want to make a reply. I don't know anything about 4ch, but I know a lot about the Japanese 2ch. lol
First of all, I am properly educated about the situation of Yasukuni shrine, and I had to go there twice for a school field trip as means to show that what it is doing is wrong. I read parts from Ian Buruma's "The Wages of Guilt" and I agree that Yasukuni is anything but a place to "commemorate peace" (according to the Yasukuni shrine officials). Personally, Yasukuni Shrine is one of those horrible places in Japan that makes it unfavorable to neighboring nations just for some stupid nationalistic pride. I am not saying that I am not nationalistic, but that place is not worth its price.
Speaking of nationalism, the main reason why Koizumi went to Yasukuni is because he wanted to gain the votes of the right wingers, not to intentionally piss off neighboring nations. If anything, he is not nationalistic since he is doing no good to that nation and that's the same with the LDP (Liberal Democratic Party). That damned totalitarian party has been in power for over 50 years, and the citizens are just stupid sheep who vote over and over again for the LDP since they don't know anything else. God Damnit! I mean, that country is a corrupt socialism not a democracy! To tell you the truth, I don't care whether there are car bombings or mobs attacking the leaders of both countries of my citizenship since the politics of those countries are utter bullshit. I don't care if China, Korea, or Russia launch cruise missles against the resident of the prime minister or the LDP headquarters since they are doing more good to the people of Japan than those rotten politicians. It is those kind of rotten politicians that made the Nanking massacre, U731, the crualties toward the residents of Okinawa during WWII, the restriction against POW's who died by the A-bomb to have their name not be written on the a-bomb memorial, the Northern Territories issue, support the deployment of SDF troops to Iraq, and the "selling out" of Okinawa to become a key U.S. millitary base just because "they are not Japanese" (quote from Hirohito). SOMEONE MUST LIBERATE THE JAPANESE PPL!!!!!!!

It is almost equal to the Alighton. Thus I understand that Japanese government officials have the rights to visit the Yasukuni. And A-class War Criminals were victims of the victors' justice.

The important thing is not the guy is either taiwanese or commie (or even japanese).
What the guy said is to be discussed.
Don't you have any objection or argument against that article?
Instead of accusing his nationality, you'd better argue against his assertion.

Don't keep us in suspense - who do you think? I learned in my history classes in Helsinki that the Russians were the first true traitors to Communist China. The leaders in Moscow let hundreds of thousands of people be murdered while the communist party faithful in China awaited responses to their requests for help in the revolution. This is partially why the revolution was so bloody, because the sides had a chance to really kill each other before one became more dominant. But then again, who could blame the Russians for ignoring the Chinese requests for advice and military support when they were dealing with their own problems at home? Or is your hatred selective? Do you hate the Mongolians for Ghengis Kahn? Or the Japanese for their 20th century tyrrany? It's always somebody isn't it. It's all HISTORY, isn't it?

Koizumi does not visit the shrine in an official capacity (Other PMs HAVE visited 'officially')
Emperor Akihito has never visited the shrine.
Emperor Hirohito did not visit the shrine after 1976 when the war criminals were buried in it.
Why do they do it? To piss off North and South Korea and China.

I agree, we should not hate China, Russia, Japan, Germany, or any other country for what they did in the past, if they're no longer at it.
it depends... you can say that Mao is creative destruction. He liked to say that the Chinese people were like a blank slate upon which beautiful characters could be darwn...
but in reality, they were drawn... with blood.
Yasukuni is really not worth getting agitated over. You're basically hurting yourself, and in the long run, Japanese nationalism is the nationalism of a corrupt and dying nation.

The only problem with Yasukuni shrine is the tablet that says the war was necessary for Asian peace, which is a load of shit
Otherwise it's just a damn memorial to Japan's fallen, it's not a memorial to their imperial ideals. Besides, people have been going to it for decades, its obvious that the Chinese decided to bring up the stink to coincide with their rising nationalism. Face it, the time to whine was 60 years ago, Asia would be much better of if you guys got along in the PRESENT.

Bullshit (often bowdlerized to BS), also Bullcrap, is a common English expletive. It can also be shortened to just "Bull".
Most commonly, it describes incorrect, misleading, false language and statements. Literally, it describes the feces of a bull. As with many expletives, it can be used as an interjection (or in many other parts of speech) and can carry a wide variety of meanings.
Bullshitting is usually when one makes statements that are false, or made-up. Usually people describe other people's action of making a lot of statements as bullshitting in arguments, when one is making up rules or making examples that are not anything to do with what they are discussing or when one is making statements by using examples that need different rules to be applied, so this person is bullshitting
As it contains the word "shit", the term is sometimes considered foul language, hence the use of the euphemistic abbreviations "bull" and "BS". Nonetheless, the term is prevalent in American English and, as with many words, the term is used in a variety of countries, some dating back to approximately the same era World War I. In British English, bollocks is a comparable expletive, although bullshit is now a commonly used expletive in British English also.
