Digital piano / keyboard recommendations?

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-22 14:35

I've just started learning the piano and will need to get myself one for practice soon. Right now I can only access a (lovely) upright a few hours a week. As I'm just starting out and I'm extremely tight on cash, a used digital piano seems to be the good way to go? Some of the Yamaha and old Kawai ones look nice.

Ideally, I'd like it to have nice realistic samples, weighted keys (preferably 88 keys) and some USB / Midi functionality so that I can also use it as a controller.

Any recommendations. My budget is about 400 - 500 bucks.

You won't get what you're asking for for less than $1,000.

Only good way to buy a keyboard is to go to the store and try them out.  If you're just beginning you don't need ludicrously realistic samples, you just need to learn how to play. Find what you're looking for then hunt for bargains ebay, craigslist, you know the drill

cheap midi controllers are extremely easy to find on ebay, might be cheaper to acquire seperately

Used would definitely be the way to go for your budget. I was able to find someone selling an M-Audio ProKeys 88 for $400 on Facebook Marketplace, and it's served me pretty well.
