What guitar should I buy?

Name: Anonymous 2010-11-07 5:42

Hey /mu/, I've been playing Acoustic Guitar for 2 years now and I think I've gotten sufficiently good to move up to an electric guitar, got any opinions on what guitar I should buy? (I also play more grunge orientated songs if that helps)

You should buy one of Jimi Hendrix' 1967 Fender Stratocasters.

Quit playing that grunge shit.
Buy a Gibson SG and learn how to play some complicated stuff.

get a fender telecaster... my favorite guitar that i own is a telecaster, despite the fact that it's also probably the cheapest guitar i own lol.. if you wanna put up some cash get a 72 deluxe reissue tele.

grunge? you want either a Fender Mustang or a Rickenbacker. Schecter makes a good variety of guitars for cheap. great quality, too.
and you got a fuzz pedal? buy yourself a Big Muff Pi.

You should obtain for yourself a Fender Jazzmaster.

Doesn't matter if you play grunge.  No matter how good you are- it'll sound like shit.Buy Fender Starcaster - found at most Costco's and/or Wal-marts.

it's all about the budget. get the best one that you can afford that feels good in your hands and learn how to set it up properly - maybe change out the pickups then buy a good amp.

Absolutely.
Most people don't realize that a top of the line amp can make ANY guitar that can stay in tune sound good.

Try out a bunch of different guitars on a bunch of different amps, first of all.  Personally I avoid Gibson and Fender instruments (though Fender amps are just fine) because I find them to be overpriced for the quality of what you get in return.  Look into Schecter for a good inexpensiveish guitar.  For grunge style playing (unless you consider bands like Nirvana to be grunge) you'll want some thick, sludgy distortion.  Big Muff rules (it's a fuzz box), but test it out first.  It's too much muff for some!
If, instead of sludgy grunge sound, you want a sharper honking tone like Kurt Cobain often used, look at guitars with single coil pickups.  Most Fenders use single coil pickups.
Have fun shopping and good luck!

There is so much wrong with this post I don't even know where to start.
>Fender Guitars are cheap. Schecters are generic pieces of shit.
>Unless you get an old one, Big Muffs are terrible for grunge.
>Cobain's guitar tone isn't 'honking.'
>Cobain exclusively used Fender guitars with Humbuckers in the bridge position.
