imitating 8-bit music with built-in synths

I have a computer program, Anvil Studio, which comes with built-in instrument sounds.  Among those sounds are leads and pads.  I figure the leads would be best to use to quickly create an 8-bit sound, but which lead would be best?  (square, sawtooth, calliope, chiff, charang, voice, fifths, or bass+lead)

Also, would 8-bit drums be an electric snare/electric bass drum, or what?

Why don't you just download a cracked version of FL Studio? it comes with 8bit drum samples/ wave generators, ect. and will sound much better.
