Music seems tied to language. Both possess Rhythm and Tonality. Both have access to emotional markers in the brain. Music, however, doesn't reference metaphors and concepts sans lyrics.

I dont think we know enough to note the function in an evolutionary sense.

I think you can get caught up in a sense of rythm. I found myself walking in time to an MGMT song last night at work, reaaly rocking out without realizing it. I realized I was haveing fun for no other reason than I had a catchy beat, an it turned something mundane into something enjoyable.
