I know this board is mainly rock music, which I listen to a lot. But I also like to bump rap music just as much. Im not just one of those people who are like, "damn man did you hear lollipop!? Lil waynes fucking sweet!" and then front like they listen to him. I listen to wayne, but I have been listening to him way before he got famous. But when I listen to rap music, I listen to it for a purpose. That's the reason I like older rap better, example- nas, wu tang clan, big, 2pac. Anyways I just wanted to know all of your opinions about rap music.

3rd Bass
Geto Boys
A Tribe Called Quest

Thats all older, and if its not its done in an old style, where content and lyrics takes precedence over catchiness and contemporary fashion.

Quasimoto sucks. It's like t-pain before auto-tune was invented.
Jeru the Damaja is tight as hell, he manages to be engaging without neccesarily becoming pretentious or tired. you gotta hand it to him for being such a fantastic lyricist

Parcyde and DOOM are tight, Lord Quas sucks. Fishscale is decent rap with stellar production.

Old rap music tended to sound stupid, even though the songs often had political themes. Modern rap like fifty cent, (yes he has a lot of talent for writing catchy songs), fabolous, Lloyd Banks, etc. are far nicer sounding, notorious BIG blazed the path for slick sounding rhymes that kept the beat well, while tupac started the trend of rapping on beats that didn't just sound like rain falling on a tin roof. Though his rapping style was hit and miss, he at least tried to sound good and in time. Before these two rappers rap "music" was utter shit made by a bunch of unskilled amateurs more concerned with incoherent, half-backed ramblings about society than with making catchy songs people could actually enjoy.
I guess that's why the only people who listen to "oldschool" rap are lame white collage faggots who want to prove they're Not Racist, in other words patronizing little pussies with pseudo-intellectual pretensions.

BIG sucks, he's got no creativity even if he has skill. Tupac was awwwwwwite. Wu Tang is about half good and half complete shit. Public Enemy is kickass, but they're not like this popular dance music shit that most rappers put out. Saul Williams is great. Sir Mix-A-Lot is okay. Lil Kim is great. Ice Cube, Vanilla Ice, P Diddy, and LL Cool J were all good at one point and threw their careers away.
Everyone else sucks.

Op again, I love Fabolous, I have all his mixtapes and albums and I know he's the hottest rapper yet but is mobb deep really no good?
Gza's solo shit, is godly. His album liquid swords is easily one of the best of all time. He spits so hard, and his flow is amazing.
