I'm not too keen on doom metal, but you could go with Black Sabbath. They started the doom sound with their self titled song. Also you should check out an amazing band called My Dying Bride, which isn't as "evil" sounding as most doom, but has its own unique dark sound.

I honestly can't think of any decent Epic Doom Metal bands off hand. If you don't mind a little less epicness, try Saint Vitus. Their first two albums, "Saint Vitus" and "Hallow's Victim," feature a mediocre vocalist but "Born Too Late" is excellent. The same vocalist was in The Obsessed. They were a little closer to the rock roots of Black Sabbath but still had doom moments. Cathedral's "Forest of Equilibrium" is also worth a spin.
Pop is for girls and faggots. Rap is for retards and niggers. Trance/techno is for mushroomheads. Also they all sound like shit. Thereforce metal is what I listen.
As for topic, I'm not so much into doom metal, but I like Swallow the Sun. It's melodeath/doom though.
