I'm big on prog rock so about half of these guys do solo guitar stuff. If you want jazz, start with something like Marcus Miller, Miles Davis, Wynton Warseilles, John Coltrane, or Jaco Pastorious. Hope  this helps

Mogwai.  The trick to outing a psuedo-indie is to ask him what he thinks of the vocalist for Mogwai, rather like the old "So I suppose you know my old friend so-and-so who lives on Blank Street" trick.

65daysofstatic play instrumental music, similar to some early screamo bands, whereby there is a long, layered intro and an or multiple climax(es) throughout the song, and the songs are long.

Yes I know it's a retarded name but they make badass instremental music. (If you've seen 28 Days Later, then you've heard them. They do the song that plays towards the beginning when Jim is walking through the empty city.)
