Genre

Why does /music/ get in to such a tizzy about genres? Music doesn't need to be classified or pigeon holed to be enjoyed. Half of the bands I see genre arguments being started over rarely classify themselves as anything beyond rock or pop if anything at all.

Why does it matter so much? Why are you unable to judge something on its own merits as opposed to whichever subculture you can link it to?

people just cling to it. it's not really something you can explain. i just get in a "tizzy" when people talk about genres and label bands as shit when they have no clue what they're talking about.
