In the traditional definition of emo, no. In the new definition, yes. They're for 12 year old girls and scenefags.

"ALL MUSIC IS EMO"
Emotional is different from emo.
Emo is emotional in the "Oh my god my life is so fucking horrible, I lost my iPod. I'm going to kill myself" way.
Emotional is just that, emotional. Except without the faggotry.

wow, u should get the shit outa yer ears pall cause .................how........how could u......... HAVE U BEEN LIVING A FUCKING SHIT ASS HOLE??????????
It's not shit dude, you're probably just hating on it because it's popular.
And if that's not the reason you have to at least respect their first CD when they actually experimented. Their newest one is a sellout piece of greasy poo.
give me one god reason why MCR should even be considered a good band.

they're pop sensibility, their ability to satisfy their fans but change in style with each cd, blah blah blah
listen
they're not my favorite band in the world, i practically hated their third cd
but they aren't emo
whatever. listen i have been to the edge of emo and back. so i know emo wheni hear it.

Optimus Prime, while I agree with you that MCR "so suck xcore" and donkeyballs, I don't believe they are an emo band. Not even the style of their songs are emo. Try listening to bands like the older Fugazi and you'll see the difference. No, they're not emo. Anyway it doesn't matter.
MCR is just an MTV marketing idea, a brainwash package crap, worthless piece of garbage so-called "non-conformist, dark people" listen to.

MCR's material has degraded quiiiiite a bit from back in the day
but again Optimus, i don't know what you were listening to but it certainly wasn't emo

MCR is definatly emo. Fugazi on the other hand is post hardcore, not emo.

Nope, there's no connection between emo and MCR.
Listen to some MCR, then put on some Moss Icon, Embrace, Rites of Spring or Portraits of Past. Can you hear any similar tunes? No, you can't.
Now, put on some midwestern emo alá Sunny Day Real Estate, Promise Ring or Mineral. Any connection yet? No, nothing.
The same can be said about any of these so called "emo bands" of today.
The problem is somewhere in the last two years, the word emo became a mainstream slang. Ignoring the bands of old, the label "emo" was for some reason, I don't get this, thrown around to bands ranging from pop to college punk.
There is no - none - zip - zilch connection, audio or visual, between these bands and the actual emo bands of the 90s. They don't even sound like the fucking get up kids.
Hell, I read some newspaper awhile back calling Death Cab For Cutie an emo band.
Bearshimmy - Fugazi did play emo, they were one of the most influencial bands of the DC emo scene.

MCR are pretty crap, but they seem far too pop in my opinion to be deemed 'emo'
Well considering a large percentage of their fan base are overprivelaged fags who follow this "emo" or "scene" shit, I'd call them emo.

Dress emo? How do you dress like a genre of music?
Ok, so I'll play along - what are they wearing then? Chucks, jeans(too short?), vintage tees, old and/or too small pullovers and nerdy thick-framed glasses?
Because that's the most iconic way an emo nerd might dress - although it's never been a culture with a real dresscode like for example punk or pop.
No, they wear a fucking retarded uniform - there's nothing "emo" about that.
And their fans? Uhm, they look like faggots with ugly haircuts, stupid attire and makeup. Protip - that's just gay, not emo.

They're less emo every album they make.

who cares if they're emo, their fans are and that's all that matters.
I'd say they're not emo , although once checked somekinda emo forum or smth and everybody was really thrilled about them .
The thing is , that when classical music (for exmpl) would become the IT thing and all the emo people would listen to it , it wouldn't make Beethoven emo .
