Metal does not mean metalcore.

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-28 17:32

That's the problem, all he said was "metal."  OP, can you tell us what kind of metal you've been getting into, as well as what non-metal bands you like, favorite music styles/VG OST genres, etc.?

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-29 0:13

N.ex.T, Lapis Lazuli, and Gackt are all good hard band for you.
I hope I help.

N.ex.T = great K-Rock (Guilty Gear's "Vortex Infinitum" was done by)

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-29 19:56

Asking for "metal" is kind of vague

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-30 0:37

>>12
Yeah, we've already covered that, thanks.

Well, I'm going to reccomend Absu. I have The Sun of Tiphareth, In the Eyes of Ioldánach, and Tara. Very good black/thrash stuff. The drumming is just amazing.

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-30 0:48

Fine, since OP won't clarify, I'll just give out random.

Listen to some Machinae Supremacy, Children Of Bodom, Disarmonia Mundi, Wintersun, Clawfinger, and Gamma Ray.  Because I said so.

Also, SYMBYOSIS MOTHERFUCKER.

They have free mp3s for download.  You have no excuse not to get them.

Nice list. You should have noted that no one should listen to Are You Dead Yet, though, as it is pure trash.

Also: Ulver, Ensiferum, Nazgul (Italy), and 1349.

Hey, I liked the singles.

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-30 1:25

Well, as opposed to Follow The Reaper and Hatebreeder. Are You Dead Yet sounds horrible in comparison.

Yeah, the album probably would've been recieved better if they hadn't released all the good songs ahead of it.

Heavymetal sucks,
Why can't it just leave,
We're now all just waiting,
For Jazz to catch some luck.

Oh why must we tolerate,
Each crash, rattle, boom?
In the end it'll just simulate,
Ground Zero, America's doom.

Name: In the year 2062 2006-09-03 16:51

a galaxy-wide war results in the union of all planets under the rule of the Red Star of the Solar Federation. The world is controlled by the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx, who determine all reading matter, songs, pictures . . . everything connected with life during the year 2112 ("The Temples of Syrinx").

In the midst of this assembly line living, a man discovers what was once known years before as a guitar ("Discovery"). The man begins to pluck the strings and turn the knobs, discovering that he can make his own music - a music very different from that of the Temples. He rushes to tell the priests of his discovery, ("Presentation") but to the man's dismay, the priests destroy the instrument, saying it doesn't fit the plan of the Solar Federation.

The man returns to the cave in which he found the guitar and, during a dream, is led by an oracle to a land of incredible beauty and serenity ("Oracle: A Dream"). Upon awakening, he can not believe it was a dream — the beauty was so real.

He remains in the cave for several days, becoming more and more depressed with each passing hour ("Soliloquy"). The man decides he can not go on as part of the Federation and takes his life to move on to a better one. As he dies, another planetary battle begins ("Grand Finale") resulting in the (perhaps deliberately) ambiguous ending "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation: We have assumed control."

Morbid Angel - Blessed Are The Sick (original version only, NOT the remaster) is my favorite metal album, as it's the only one I've heard with such awesome high dynamic range mastering.  I'd love to hear more metal mastered in this style. LOUDER DOES NOT MEAN HEAVIER.

I fail to see where this "high dynamic range mastering" is found on the original version, unless you mean that treble filled shitstorm that would have been the greatest death metal album ever. The remaster balanced everything out quite nicely.

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-12 18:11

Definately Iron Maiden's early albums (like Number of the Beast).  For power metal, Blind Guardian (Night At The Opera or Nightfall first) and Sonata Arctica.  Symphony X is great, too.

And, of course...DEATHKLOK.  It's awesome for a fake band.

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-13 4:32

Ensiferum
Sonata Arctica
are two that I like

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-19 12:47

>>45
Are you listening to the same album?  If it's unbalanced at all it's bass heavy, not treble heavy.  The "high dynamic range" is exactly that, and it is the result of tasteful use of compression instead of the MAKE EVERYTHING REALLY LOUD ALL THE TIME fuckup of modern mastering techniques.

>>46
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast (great album btw.) also has high dynamic range (at least the version I have does).  Pretty much everything recorded in the '80s or earlier does unless ruined with a shitty remaster.

BORIS

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-26 17:48

try:
Metallica - Kill em all, Ride the lightning, Master of puppets
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Trivium - The crusade
Pantera - Reinventing steel

All of those bands are brilliant, Metallica (in this case old Metallica)and Slayer being the fast thrash-metal, Trivium being neo-classical, post-thrash, whatever metal and Pantera being riffs that will crush your skull like it was nothing.

Name: Mr. Fahrenheit 2006-10-26 22:24

Pantera
Slayer
Lordi
Iron Maiden

...just to name a few.

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-26 22:52

...you did not just fucking lump Trivium with Slayer. Trivium isn't as bad as a lot of metal fans make it out to be, but it's nowhere as influencial or good as the other bands you listed.

And A Vulgar Display of Power is a much better Pantera album.

Some underrated thrash:
Prong
Overkill
Destruction

Name: Orakio 2006-10-27 10:09

Ignore crap like Lordi and shitty thrash like Ulver.

Of the top of my head some of the good albums and songs if applicable are:
Symphony X - Devine Wings of Tragedy (Sea of Lies, the Accolade)
Morgana Lefay - SOS
Macabre - Murder Metal
Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia (Kings of the Carnival creation)
Iced Earth - Something Wicked This Way Comes (The coming curse)
Testament - The Gathering (Hatreds Rise, Eyes of Wrath)
Bal Sagoth - Battle Magic (Blood Slakes the sand of Circus Maximus)
Within Temptation - Mother Earth
Opeth - Still Life (The Moor)

Some good artists...
Spiritual Beggars
Dead Kennedys (many people call them punk but musically they are more rock like) - Holiday in Cambodia
Sonata Artica
Rhapsody
Joe Petrucci
Jon Ericson
Steve Vai
Yngwie Malmsteen
Iron Maiden
Machinae Supremacy
Liquid Tension Experiment
dream Theatre
Rotting Christ

There's lots of thrashy death like Bathory, Cannibal Corpse, Anal Cunt, etc which I would avoid for now.

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-29 1:46

>>53
It doesn't matter whether the Dead Kennedys are punk or rock, they're not metal and they don't belong in this thread.

And don't tell people to avoid Bathory. What are you, an idiot? Quorthon pretty much started Viking Metal and heavily influenced Black Metal.
