rap is just as bad as pop these days in terms of churning out generic crap. Hip Hop is so much more innovative. But fot the sake of the actual arguement, I'd have to say rock.
Rock: Made by white people Rap: Made by black people

Rock: Actually involves music, and encompasses a wide range of artists and styles, from King Crimson to Led Zeppelin to Sex Pistols to the Stones.
Rap: Puffed up nonces going on about how awesome they are[n't]. At least most of them have a sense of rhythm.

The thing I hate most are the ignorant people who base their opinion of rap on what they see on MTV or hear on the radio. I also hate it when the same people say making rock music takes a ton of talent, and say making rap music is easy and anyone can do it.
Ok so playing an instrument is so hard? How come I see every 10 year picking up and playing guitar so easily. I've never seen a 10 year old mixing and producing beats.
As for lyrics, c'mon. Lyrics in most rock songs are simple, the performer doesn't even need a wide vocabulary. Writing and performing lyrics to a beat isn't simple at all.. you know making sure the words rhyme, make sense, and don't sound lame.
I dunno, I guess it kinda looked like I bashed rock here.. Don't get me wrong, I love rock.. I used to love it and hate rap.. but ever since I opened up my eyes to other genres and actually took a good look at real rap my opinion has changed.

general rule of thumb: if it's on MTV, it sucks.
some black guy told me he hated "white people music" and that i should too (i'm a beaner.)
i don't think he ever heard of Funkadelic, or Jimi Hendrix, or BB King.
New age rock is terrible. Bands make songs that are 2 - 3 minutes long, make 10 that sound alike, and call it an album. Rap is even worse...a repeating beat over and over, one phrase repeated over and over, with additional sexual innuendos sprinkled in. The best rock bands are the ones that started pre-90s, with some exceptions (System of a Down). Bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Rolling Stones, Kiss, Guns 'n Roses is what rock should be and should continue to be.

Wow, there's an extreme amount of ignorance going on here. Both forms of music each have their own subgenres and nuances that create subtle differences between the two but in the end they're just about the same.
Hell, if you don't believe that the genres are basically interchangeable listen to the song "Hey Ya" by Outkast and then go look up the any of the acoustic versions done by rockers. It's the same shit in the end.
Give me NIN or nothing in rock. Rap is shit. Real life experiences? Like we give a shit. Any musician can create fictuous lyrics based on events going on in their lives, so suck a dick.
If Rap lyrics are based on "real life experiences", the group who made that song "wait(the whisper song)" seriously need to re-think some things and stop spreading disease.

My god this is some awesome music! Very good experemetal industrial!
I know what you mean. Sad thing is though that, if you live in a small town like I am, it gets soo bad that even contemporary fads like "emo" and "indie" are seen as just as strange as experemental or street performers. Infact anyone who actually lisens to music besides in the car or while doing someting is seen as negative.
Even in the band I am in, I am the only person who has a favorite song that has NOT been a hit single!

"rock takes talent" really?.....to me it seems like a bunch of people complaining, being angry, or talking about love or gratification of some kind.......which is basically what most music is......Or in the case of pretentious indie crap, trying to seem deep.
