Rock: lyrics are unoriginal... Rap: lyrics based on real experiences

rock can have lyrics based on actual life events as well. What I like about rock is that they don't restrict themselves to talking about merely their own problems, whereas rappers mostly tend to talk about how they got shot or what happened to them (at least from what I have heard). Rock can focus on themselves, or politics, or a group of people, or all three even.

Rap can talk about the same thing. It's just the crappy mainstream rap that ppl listen to that talks about themselves getting shot or what not. anyways...most of music is crap anyways...the line between rap and rock is pretty blurry. Both genres inspired eachother to make pretty decent music

I honestly don't care if I get banned, but I must say this. Rap is the most ignorant form of music in existance, it is created by niggers that slowly declined in a white-man ignored part of our towns. 'Rap' has only created such things as 'Crumping', which is a disgusting form of 'dance' created by some black bitch with an overbite the size of my fucking fist, and other assorted bullshit. Why anyone would bother putting effort into listening to this is queer. Rap not only sucks, but only sucks in 'One Genre', you can call it old school, etc, but it is still rap and still sucks.

Besides, Rap Lyrics: Everyone seems to have the same experience with weed and loose women. Rock Lyrics: <3 Godly.

Rock lyrics are "unoriginal" you say? Funny...seems everytime I hear a rap song, all I'm hearing is "paper", "bithes", "niggas" and "bling". Wow...very original music....and that is TOTALLY life experience right there. Life experience no one gives two shits about.

Rap is such a small box to place music in. Listen to Dr Octagon and Zion I and tell me Rap isn't awesome. Its mainstream rap that sucks. Same goes for Rock. Eukaryotics, Queens of the Stone Age, etc.

I generally dislike both genres but if I had to pick one it'd be rock. I personally think rock displays more talent and rap is just African-Americans who think they're smart because they can talk fast and swear in creative ways. Still, I haven't actually listened to much rap except for accidently encountering it on the radio or tv so I don't really have a balanced opinion on the topic.
I saw Ice-T doing rock. If only everyone else would switch.

Popularity is a marketing thing, not a talent thing.
There are tons of talented "rock" bands that are not popular at all but you'll find them if you listen to college radio and get music from sources other than television, commercial radio and pablum magazines like Rolling Stone. Find venues and dyi spots that present bands that actually go out on a limb with their creativity.
Or maybe you live in a small town in which case you're probably fucked for good live music.
Neptune (http://www.misterrecords.com/neptune/) comes to mind right now because they are playing a show here soon. Most of their instruments are homemade. Their guitars have these metal necks that look and sound sick as fuck. They seemlessly combine these trippy and grating noise sections with rocking fucking rhythmic dirges. They're really tight musicians and have obviously written all of their noise parts which might otherwise sound like improv. My only major problem with the band is that the singer's voice can get really annoying at times. I definitely prefer the band when they are just doing instrumental stuff.
And thats just one group.
And no, I don't work for them or anything.
I hope I'm not the only one in this thread that listens to music that isn't just a slick commercial product designed for optimum market penetration. Musicfags unite.
Songs on commercial radio are 3:30 long ads for a disgustingly overpriced compact disc that one buys as a fashion accessory.
Well, then there's the the classic rock stations which are an entirely different demo.
