Recording Programs

Hey everyone, I've been writing my own music (guitar mostly) for a few years now, but until recently I hadn't gotten the urge to record it. Just wondering if anyone knows of some good programs (other than garage band, as I cannot afford a mac) that I could use and possible add some drums to. Thanks!

Audacity is decent for simple recording tasks, and it's free.

You can't add drums on Audacity though unless you record them yourself.

Well, what would work best for you depends on what you are using to record. There are always ways to "obtain" programs if you cannot afford them as well. Some to look out for Cubase, Adobe Audition or Cool edit pro. Audacity works well for simple things, and is free, but no where near as good as the others I listed. I record my guitar when I am at home with my Pod XT Live direct into USB, using adobe audition. Works fantastic. But I use either the line out on my Pod or mic up my Fender hot rod deluxe for band/live use.

Get reaper, it's completly free and works great.  Just as good as cubase although it doesn't have rewire encoded yet.
