Commodore 64 (http://www.c64.com/) is the console with the "SID" soundchip (http://www.c64audio.com/).
You don't have to limit yourself to c64 music really. You could check http://www.zophar.net/ and see if you find something you like. All from Megadrive to NES like sounds.

Man or Astroman - especially their album Eeviac - surf-punk instrumentals. Commendable playing, no more than about 2 stanzas a song (with no chorus) and that's only on 2 or 3 of the 14 songs.
