What metal bands do you listen to?

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-14 12:06

I've only REALLY started getting into metal since two months ago, but so far my favorite is Amon Amarth. Other bands I've gotten into: After Forever, Agalloch, Angel Dust, Angelwitch, Arcturus, Blind Guardian, Candlemass, Demons & Wizards, Diabolical Masquerade, Dream Theater, Edge of Sanity, Elis, Evergrey, Haggard, Heavenly, How Like a Winter, Iron Maiden, Kamelot, Leaves' Eyes, Midnattsol, Nightwish, Rotting Christ, Savatage, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Theatre of Tragedy, Therion, Tristania, and Type O Negative.

All over a two months time, yes, well, there's plenty more bands I'd like to listen to and bands I have written down to check later (at least 20 others).

(for the record I used to listen to As I Lay Dying, Soilwork, NIN, Dark Tranquillity, Opeth, (some) Metallica, Atreyu, Adema, and some others. Then I listened to Amon Amarth - Versus the World and it inspired me to extend my interests elsewhere)

so...what kind of metal bands do you listen to? And what genres?

http://www.metal-archives.com/ - a search for your band here will clarify the genres..and give you lots of other information. (the site doesnt work at times though)

Orphaned Land - Mabool is the best metal album I've heard in a long, long time.

Also, Cannibal Corpse, Cannibal Corpse and more Cannibal Corpse.

Summoning, Dimmu Borgir, Empyrium, Hollenthon

Btw, you should all listen to "Nightshade Forests" by Summoning. That is just...perfect

I recommend to you Opeth, one of the best bands ever. Also, I've seen pretty much half of the bands on your list live. ^^

Dream Theater, Ayreon, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Stormtroopers of Death, Dragonforce, Stratovarius, Kreator, etc.

Mostly power and progressive. Some heavier stuff too.

I used to be heavily into black metal, but got bored with it after all the bands started sounding the same. I've been exploring all genres of metal though, since childhood actually (my dad was into Pantera and Sepultura and shit), right now I'm having fun with gore metal, this week I went to both an Exhumed and a GWAR concert.

though I can't stand most of the popular bands (popular to me is if it made it to headbangers ball or fuse)

Opeth is heavily progressive. The lead singer (and writer) of Opeth, Mikael Åkerfeldt, has made an album with Ayreon if I'm not incorrect?

Anyways, lately metal has given way to post-rock and "avant-garde" music. Try out the newer albums of Ulver for Avant-Garde, and "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" for really good post-rock (also, GYBE were named after a japanese motorcycle gang).

I am heavily into Death Metal, but I like other forms of Metal as well. Lately I have been playing King Diamon's "Fatal Portrait" a lot. I'm not a huge fan of Nu Metal but there is a couple bands/albums I like listening.

Any of you heard of The Absense? They're a local band that got a record deal a few months back and they were fucking great live. Though the last 3 tracks of their album were the first ones they wrote, so they sound a bit different from the newer ones.
