Ladytron - Witching Hour

Ho-ho-hoooooly hell! When I heard there was a new LP from Laytron out, I was expecting another round of sometimes playful, sometimes playfully sinister, always bleepy electropop for geeks who wish they were cool enough for their tight jackets and angular haircuts.

But something has clearly happened to the collective Ladytron psyche since Light & Magic. This album has so much more meat to it than anyone could have predicted, propelling Ladytron out of the post-electroclash depression with aplomb. Opener "High Rise" drips with atmosphere, tearing along with an unstoppable momentum, while centerpiece single "Destroy Everything You Touch" slows down to an anvil-thumping new-beat stomp. "Weekend" stands out even in such distinguished company, an unashamedly radio-friendly track pinned down by an almost insultingly simple bassline and some truly gorgeous hooks.

In short, this album is a triumph, and with it Ladytron have graduated from archly pretentious synth-jockeys to true rockstars. Good on them.

I have their Light & Magic album and I did not know they had a new album out.  I enjoyed Light & Magic so I might check out their new stuff.

Don't change these.
