Buckethead (a lot of weird but good shit)
Yngwie Malmsteen (metal riffs and such, but also does classical music)

there's "perfectly executed guitar work", and then there's artistry, which confuses or mystifies things, making it more interesting.  Just bear that in mind.

noone mentioned steve vai, or john petrucci. Petrucci is usually about technique, but alot of the stuff from awake, and that era are pretty musical, and some is almost jazzy
