Jrock

So do you listen to Jrock?
If so, post your favorite bands!
I mostly listen to Duel Jewel, Gazette, Kagrra and other bands.

Name: !DEEPjKeito 2004-12-24 9:09

I listen to nothing but jrock (well, almost). Visual bands mostly.
Some of my favourites are X Japan, Moi Dix Mois, Schwardix Marvally, Malice Mizer, 12012, Vidoll, hide, Aliene Ma'riage... There are simply too many good bands to chose a few favorites. I usually listen to "heavier" VK, but there are other lighter bands too that I love, like L'arc~en~Ciel and Janne da Arc.

I <3 X Japan. I teach at a junior high school in Japan, and during lunch time and cleaning time, they play music, and you can count on them playing at least 2 or 3 X Japan songs each week. Foreign Sand, Forever Love, Orgasm. It's Awesome. With a capital A apparently.

Name: !DEEPjKeito 2004-12-24 9:40

Foreign Sand isn't X Japan though. That was a song Roger Taylor made together with Yoshiki. Gotta love it anyway. <3

I like a lot of J music, my favorite jrock bands are The Pillows, Going Under Ground, Art School, Go! Go! 7188, Asian Kung Fu Generation, B'z, and just a ton of others.

X-Japan is the only real Japanese band I listen to, though they're more "J-Metal".

Name: !DEEPjKeito 2004-12-24 11:19

It's hard to put X Japan into a genre. In the early years, they played speed-metal, then hard rock, and in the last years it was more like alternative rock.

Dir en grey are my favorite group, but I also love Inugami Circus-dan, Guruguru Eigakan, Miyavi, Nightmare, and Go!Go!7188. In addition to typical J-rock, I also like a lot of Japanese punk/hardcore groups and a bit of J-rap...

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-24 16:49

Name: Fnordulicious 2004-12-24 16:56

THE PILLOWS!!1!one They're the only Jrock I really like. Most of the rest just seems to get on my nerves for some reason or another, but I can listen to The Pillows all day long. I don't know why.

DAI (Do As Infinity) is good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_As_Infinity, and I like some of Janne Da Arc and Siam Shade.

My brother invented the phrase "omg!!!!11one" (and the word "interbutt").

Do As Infinity and The Pillows kick

I like Thee Michelle Gun elephant right now. Gotta love Chiba's voice. MUCC is fun, althoug they sound very American, almost like Likin Park, and thats annoying. Oh, Back Horn and The Pillows owns you for life.

I love Road of Major and Ellegarden. Asian Kung-Fu Generation is great too.

Of course, you must be Al Gore's brother, #DEEPjKeito Gore.

Thee Michelle Gun Elephant wins the contest for best name.

Where would everyone place Nanase Aikawa? I know her later stuff is really more pop than anything else, but her earlier songs had a lot more edge. I`ve seen her termed as both Jpop and Jrock. Anyone else`s opinion?

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-24 22:50

Guitar Wolf.

Name: flying kazato 2004-12-24 23:07

Gazette has so great sounds, but the singer is shitty as hell

Personally I'd put her Jpop. Yeah, alot of her older stuff had a sort of rock edge; that's why she was on Motorod's label instead of standard Avex Trax. However, considering the fact that she doesn't really have a set band, and is just one person with someone else writing her music, definately Jpop. Still not bad though.

I like alot of the more mainstream, v-kei-ish groups, like L'arc, Luna Sea, and SHAZNA. Especially SHAZNA.

Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Bump of Chicken
Supercar
Boom Boom Satellites
Polysics (more pop than rock, but still rocks to me)

lucky you..getting to see kagerou >_<

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-26 14:34 (sage)

While I don't call it Jrock, I guess Japanese rock-type bands that I like might be:
Inu, Friction, SS, Ultra Bide, etc. My list can go on and on for quite some time.
I also like 60s/70s psych and acid folk like Les Rallizes Denudes, Zonou Keisatsu, Kazuki Tomokawa, Morita Douji, Maki Asakawa, Carmen Maki, etc etc etc.
Then there is tons of late 70s/80s underground punk/free/psych stuff and tons of more recent psych/free stuff.

i love you!

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-28 1:13

Hasn't anyone got love for The Pillows?

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-28 16:50

Hell yes! The Pillows are the best! Though they're a bit more punk-ish than straight rock.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-28 19:07

For anyone that doesn't know:

The Pillows are going to do an American tour. Their first show is at a South By Southwest Festival in Austin Texas March 16-19. After that they're going to Chicago, L.A., San Francisco, and Seattle. There is nothing* that could stop me from going to Texas to see them then again in S.F.

*except the 700+ it'll take to get there, buy a music pass, and a hotel room
