In Call of Cthulhu, finding a mangled human corpse, is somewhat more shocking than witnessing a friend's violent death.

(The reason being that the save average is 9 compared to 7. 1D6 has an equal save average to 1D4+1. Add a 1 if you succeed on the save, and the average will be higher.)
